Melina L, Enterprise Growth Manager, shares what it's like to work on her team and drive impact for one of Facebook's latest enterprise tools.
Tell us about yourself. What do you do at Facebook?
I'm an Enterprise Growth Manager on the Workplace Asia Pacific team. I partner with large organizations in Asia Pacific to help bring better communication and collaboration among their employees through one of Facebook's latest tools -
Workplace.
Workplace is a global team, headquartered and built out of London. We work closely with our Solutions Architect, Customer Success, and Small & Medium Business teams in Singapore, and frequently collaborate with our Marketing, Product and Engineering teams in London to surface feedback from the local markets. Our team operates very much like a start up within Facebook. It's amazing to see how fast the team moves - new features get developed and new ideas get initiated often and quickly.
Our goal is to drive monthly active people on Workplace. To achieve this objective, we work closely with business leaders to understand their organizational challenges and work with them on ways to increase employee engagement, retention and collaboration on Workplace. We also share customer success stories, which are not only inspiring, but also demonstrate the value that Workplace can bring to organizations.
Meet the Workplace Asia Pacific team.
What has been the stand out moment for you while working here?
We worked with the Singapore government to launch
Workplace for the entire public service sector. Being a Singaporean, I'm not only proud that my government is the first in the world on Workplace and an early adopter to this new technology, but that it truly sees the value in connecting with civil servants. Through this project and others, I have experienced the commitment from the Workplace leadership team to foster a two-way partnership with customers so that we can build a product that organizations will want.
Workplace is a collaboration platform that connects everyone in your organization and enables them to turn ideas into action.
What is something that most people don't know about your team?
Being a global team, we share a lot and communicate frequently through different time zones. We not only share best practices, regional updates, team information and product developments, but we also make sure that we share failures. At Facebook, we encourage our people to be bold and try new things, and we embrace failure. It's ok to not be successful in our ventures, as long as we recognize the reasons for our failure and bring valuable learnings back to the team. This is probably more important than a quick win.
Three favorite things about working at Facebook in Singapore:
1) Facebook Singapore has many regional teams and a variety of roles. You can easily get a flavor of the different teams that power Facebook. There is a lot of opportunity to learn about what each team does through cross-functional teaming and collaboration, which helps us to be efficient in the way we work. This is helpful too if you are wanting to try out a new role in another team.
2) Facebook Singapore is a truly diverse office - more than just roles, you'll work with people from different backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicity, gender, orientation, and beliefs. We believe that diverse teams make better decisions and have better business outcomes, and our inclusive and open working culture allows for different perspectives and ideas to be generated.
3) We have amazing chefs at the office that serve up breakfast, lunch and dinner! There's always a wide variety of food from different cuisines that are incredibly delicious and cooked with pride and love. The chefs often get creative, and on every major holiday, the food would usually be pegged to a theme which immediately perks up your day!
If you had unlimited power, what would you do?
I would give everyone the freedom of choice. The choice to love whoever you want without discrimination, the choice to education, the choice to healthcare, the choice to clean water and the choice to a sustainable environment!
