What do you do at Facebook?
I work as a Partner Manager, taking care of some of the key independent agencies across Norway, Finland and Iceland. Everyday I work together with them to help educate and consult them on how they can help grow the businesses they work with through our Facebook and Instagram platforms.
You relocated from the Nordic region to Dublin for a job with Facebook! Can you tell us about your journey and why you made the jump?
I moved from the lovely city of Bergen, Norway to Dublin, Ireland in the spring of 2014. I took my masters degree in Bergen at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and was actually on course to entering into the shipping industry, which is so highly represented in Bergen. For my final semester I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time at the University of California Berkeley, where I really felt inspired and excited about the world of tech – and where better to work within tech than at Facebookís EMEA Headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
Do you have any tips or insights for people considering relocating to Dublin from the Nordic region for a role at Facebook?
Dublin is a vibrant expat city where you have the opportunity to mingle with cultures from all over the world. With instant friends from all over the globe you are only a short flight from Dublin to so many new experiences. Check out this
video to get an idea about the career opportunities available in Facebook Dublin along with why Dublin is a city that offers so much.
What are you top 5 favorite things about living and working in Ireland?
The expat environment brings a unique flavor to your day-to-day job that is unlike anything I have ever experienced in any job or studies I have done in the Nordics.
Its location - Dublin is well situated which makes it a great hub for airlines and thus easy to get around Europe to experience many new people and places – as well as take a quick trip home.
The city of Dublin is large - yet small - I love the fact that I can hop on a bike and get basically anywhere within 15 min.
As a Norwegian we are bred to love the outdoors - Ireland offers many beautiful adventures from cliff walking, kayaking, hiking or even surfing - rent a car for the weekend and your off.
The Irish people are such friendly and open people - from the people you meet on the street, to your taxi driver or hairdresser - one of my most favorite parts of coming back to Ireland from a trip is the chatty cab tribe back to my apartment - this in true contrast to the Nordic countries.

What is your favorite aspect about working at Facebook?
The best thing about working at Facebook is the amazing people you are surrounded by. Facebook is a fast moving, forward thinking company and to do so they need to hire not just good people, but great people. I feel privileged everyday to work alongside such fascinating people from all kinds of backgrounds - I am learning so much!
What do you find motivating about the work you do within our SMB team at Facebook?
What excites me about the SMB team is the true scale of the business. An SMB can be so much - from the little shop on the corner to large e-commerce businesses or independent agencies. Being on a team that has the privilege of being in touch with all these businesses and the people in them is really exciting, but what excites me the most is the growth we are able to drive for these businesses and seeing the impact it has for them.
Can you tell us about a project you have worked on, that has pushed you to have a greater impact?
As a part of the SMB team in EMEA I had the privilege to work on setting up a collaboration with our Facebook Creative Shop team – helping to find solutions to scale creativity for our advertisers. Better creative = better results and better results = growing businesses. As a result of our collaboration we have set up educated our sales team and set up creative office hours in part yielding results such as a 124% uplift in conversions for an NGO.
What has surprised you most about Facebook now you're here?
There is a Facebook motto that nicely summarizes what surprised me the most about Facebook and that is "We're 1% finished". Even though Facebook can seem like a large company, it is still so young and because of that there is a unique freedom and flexibility at Facebook to build and develop – everything Isn't set in stone – I was surprised of the responsibility and freedom you are given so early on to do what you think best.
