This blog series focuses on the diverse people and teams that are making an impact in the Partnerships team in Asia Pacific. In this installment, we feature the Workplace by Facebook team and the exciting projects they're working on.
What is it like to work on the Workplace by Facebook team? To Quinten S, Strategic Partner Manager, it's all about the inclusive and collaborative team culture. We interviewed him to find out more about the Workplace team and his experience in working at Facebook Singapore.
Tell us about yourself and your role at Facebook?
I was originally from Belgium, and I 'traded' Belgian waffles for
'kaya toast' when I moved to Singapore with my wife and two children three years ago. I love exploring the nature parks and reserves in Singapore on my mountain bike and playing football with my friends and colleagues.
I first joined
Facebook Singapore as the global mobility manager covering the Asia Pacific region. After two years in the role, I joined the Workplace Asia Pacific team as a strategic partner manager, where I work to implement
Workplace for various client and partner organizations. Together with my project team, I conceptualize the launch plan and the tailored communication strategy for our clients and partners. We also make sure that corporate champions are well trained and are ready to act as Workplace experts within their companies. After the roll out, my team will continue to follow up and share best practices.
How will Workplace impact organizations?
Workplace by Facebook makes organizations more connected and productive. It enables two-way conversations, not top-down communications, and democratizes employee culture. Ultimately, Workplace builds connections between people, not organization charts, and helps bring companies into the digital, mobile age.
The impact of Workplace for companies is huge. I implemented Workplace at an airlines company and it has been very successful for them. They appreciated how easy it is to connect with everyone within the organization. The employees there are now focused on getting the highest customer satisfaction ratings and sharing great stories on Workplace.
I also helped launch Workplace at two global non-government organizations,
“Save the children” and
“BRAC”. It is awesome to help these organizations connect with their teams from all over the world so that they can be globally aligned on their projects.
Workplace is a collaboration platform that connects everyone in your organization and enables them to turn ideas into action.
What has been the stand out moment for you at Facebook?
I don't have a particular stand out moment as it is more about the entire experience of working here that makes it so amazing.
Facebook is a dynamic company, and although it has grown tremendously in recent years, we have not lost our entrepreneurial spirit and builder culture. The 'can-do attitude' and collaborative spirit of my colleagues are something I enjoy and appreciate every day. People who thrive at Facebook look beyond the status quo – they love creating new things, and figuring out how to continuously improve the way we’re working and the products we’re building, and making a direct impact. One of the mantras here is “Nothing at Facebook is someone else's problem” which is so important because taking personal responsibility and ownership for everything that affects you matters at Facebook.
Besides the culture, I love traveling to remote places within Asia Pacific; working together with brilliant people; and bringing impact to companies by connecting them with their employees in a way that they were not able to do so previously.
The Workplace Asia Pacific team.
What's something that most people don't know about your team?
What you might not expect from the Workplace Asia Pacific team is how incredibly diverse we are. We're proud to have 10 different nationalities - Korean, Indian, Belgian, Singaporean, Israeli, Japanese, American, Canadian, Malaysian, and Australian - represented within the team!

Three favorite things about working at Facebook Singapore:
1. As a Belgian, I need to mention the Beer Garden! Being able to drink a cold beer with colleagues after a hard day at work in the office is pure bliss.
2. I like the size of the office. It's neither too big nor too small, which makes it possible to get to know many of my colleagues from different departments.
3. Last but certainly not least, the Monday football games with the Facebook Football Club are great fun, and an energizing way to start the week. We play against other companies like Linkedin , Uber and Google. On occasions where we're not playing against another company, we'll arrange to play with other Facebookers.
If you had unlimited power, what would you do?
In true Singaporean spirit, I'll make people from all nationalities, religions and cultures unite to learn from one another and enrich their lives!
