How does the Account and Partner Management team contribute to Facebook’s mission of bringing the world closer together?

Beyond the core Account Management and Partner Management roles, we engage with the Australian small and medium business community to help bring the world closer together through initiatives such as:
  • Community Boost: We run Facebook community events in Australia which has helped to train 3000 SMBs in 2018 on the FB platform and growing their business with digital skills.
  • Indigenous Program: We work with indigenous communities and have identified a number of SMBs to help them to create Facebook business pages, build an online presence and run successful advertising campaigns. For 2019, we are looking to expand this and make a bigger impact.
  • Client Council: In 2018, we created a client council where we identified and pulled together 25 Australian SMBs to connect every six months. The purpose is to gain a deeper understanding of their challenges and seek opportunities within their markets. Facebook also presented updates on the advertising platform and ran 1-1 coaching sessions with each business.

What type of problems does your team help to solve for small and medium businesses?

We work with businesses across all verticals with a sophisticated range of advertising, from connecting with local customers, to scaling globally. My team helps to consult and implement the core marketing framework through to the most advanced solutions that the largest global advertisers use.

What are the career opportunities for candidates who are interested in joining the team?

When people join us, we work to understand the tasks that they enjoy. They may not be good at them initially but with coaching and practice they have the opportunity to grow. Based on these strengths, we have worked with and had team members transferred to different teams within Facebook including Creative Shop, Agency as well as Product Marketing (SMEs).

What are the top three attitudes to be successful on the team?

  • Empathy/Respect: Emotional mastery to effectively work with diverse clients and colleagues.
  • Self Driven: Motivation to make an impact while thriving in uncharted territory
  • Growth Mindset: Ability to quickly identify underlying problems/objections while being self-driven to propose solutions.

You’ve been at Facebook for four years. How has Facebook helped you in your career progression and development?

Facebook has grown significantly in the last four years. We have more structure to our organization now, but we haven’t lost the empowerment to make decisions as appropriate at the individual level. I have had two formal roles running an outsourced program and leading a sales team with the scope and expectation in each role evolving significantly. This pace of change has continued to shape my development and expose me to more opportunities.
Being based in Singapore, the Asia Pacific head office for Facebook, has helped to grow my understanding of the regional challenges and opportunities and given me significant insights and excitement for the road ahead.

Anastasia P., Account Manager, Australia & New Zealand

What do you do in your role as an account manager?

I help empower small and medium businesses based in Australia and New Zealand by providing advice on how to drive business results through Facebook ads. I provide insights on trends in the online space, best practices for content creation, and suggestions to spearhead their business internationally!

You joined Facebook as a fresh graduate. Can you share more about your experience growing into your role and the best part about your job?

I studied sociology and Indonesian at university, and didn’t have theoretical marketing or business knowledge prior to my role at Facebook. That didn’t mean that I was at a disadvantage as I was able to transfer skills from my degree and part-time job experience to my current role. As I’ve been working specifically with eCommerce, retail and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) businesses, I’ve now developed a thorough understanding of how they operate, and how Facebook can play a major role in growing them.
The best part of my job is working with small businesses. They never fail to inspire me. When my clients tell me that they’ve hired more people because their businesses have grown, it means they have helped to build an even stronger economy in their locality. When small businesses grow, entire communities benefit.

What is your best advice for fresh grads looking to join Facebook’s Account and Partner Management team?

Simply, to give it a go! I never expected Facebook to respond to my application, and was pleasantly surprised when they did! Make sure you understand the position you apply for and your application answers the requirements. Even if your experience is not directly related, you can tailor your resume and cover letter to communicate your understanding of the role and what it entails as well as the Facebook mission. Monitor the Facebook Careers website and never be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. It's actually where you can grow the most!

Anastasia co-leads the Facebook Singapore Run Club.

How was it like to relocate from Australia to Singapore?

Relocating felt like a roller-coaster at the time – super thrilling, terrifying and amazing all at the same time! Whilst it was daunting at first, I’ve found so many ways to discover new passion and maintain interest with like minded individuals. I’ve been so lucky to be part of a supportive and inclusive team, which feels almost like family! As an avid runner, I co-lead the Facebook Singapore Run Club, which has been a great way for me to meet people outside of my team through our mutual interest!
Outside of Facebook, I volunteer as a partnerships officer for a non-profit initiative called The Codette Project, which strives to empower minority women with skills they need to enter the technology industry. My love for crafts has also been rekindled through attending exciting workshops, from soap making, screen printing, to pottery and sewing.

Tansa M., Account Manager, Australia & New Zealand

What is the best part of your role as an account manager working across Facebook’s agency business?

No two days are the same. The dynamism gets your adrenaline going, which is wonderful!
Partnering with agencies and their clients gives me the opportunity to add value in a number of areas, and I get to witness growth on both sides! Scaled education where Facebook and partner agencies play co-roles to educate the client, strategizing and relationship-building are just some elements of my diverse daily activity. Currently, I am also mentoring two new colleagues.

What’s a complex challenge you recently faced and how did you solve it?

At Facebook we move fast - so prioritizing your work is key! You have to decide what is more important or more impactful at the point in time, what to 'sacrifice'. Recently, I had to decide either to continue being involved in a project I had helped to shape so as to focus on delivering growth for my client, or another project. Torn between the options, I reached out to my manager for advice on where I could best provide the most impact and value to our wider cause. It was a tough decision, but the right one in the end.

How was it like to relocate from Australia to Singapore?

Having lived in Sydney my entire life, moving to Singapore was daunting at first. My partner and I discussed the move for a long time before taking the plunge.
What made it easy throughout the process was how accommodating the company was. The welcoming nature of the team made us feel right at home - I was instantly part of the family. It didn't take long for us to settle into life here (which is admittedly quite different to the beaches of Bondi), but it’s safe to say this is now home! We’ve had to get used to entertaining, as friends and family now make Singapore a pitstop on their travels. Whilst it’s not so healthy on the waistline (Singapore is definitely a food capital of the world), it’s an incredible feeling knowing you’re in the heart of Asia, with so many amazing destinations barely a few hours' flight away.

What are your three favorite things about Facebook Singapore’s office?

1. People are warm and everyone greets you with a smile — no matter who you are or where you are from.
2. The diverse cultures that come together in the office. Making friends from all over the world has been incredible!
3. Staying true to the status Singapore holds in the world’s culinary scene, the office café is a sight to behold.
