What makes Enterprise Engineering at Facebook unique?

Enterprise engineers solve problems that entire companies are built around, whether it's supply chain management, financials or security, while still pushing the boundaries on what is thought possible in the industry. Making enterprise solutions work in a highly dynamic environment with unique requirements is challenging, and here at Facebook we take it a few steps further by making those solutions flexible enough to scale whilst being easy and elegant to use.

Describe a typical day at work in Facebook

One day I could be learning some new technology needed to design a new product, the next day I could be implementing the project itself. There is always an opportunity to share my ideas and help create better products.

How does your team work together and across the company?

Our team supports several functions that help Facebook operate better; we support finance users, data center operations, facilities and security. In order to support all of these different areas, we need to work closely with our colleagues and partners and move fast, building the products that allow these different teams to also move fast as well.

How do you know you're making impact in your work?

Whenever I help improve operations and know that our teams are using the tools that we built to enhance their processes, I know I am making an impact. Helping our teams with our tools also helps the company to operate better.

Take us through a day in the life of an Enterprise Engineer

Waking up at flexible hours is one of the great perks of working for Facebook! On the shuttle to work, I spend a bit of time reviewing code and answering any chat or group conversations. Most of my weeks start with new challenges and some exciting new ideas to implement. After reaching the office, I usually put on my headphones and start coding to solve some business problems as discussed with my PM and other colleagues. Sometimes, I might implement a cool design from the designers. I typically interview two or three candidates a week. Facebook’s always hiring!

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

Getting to work on products which affect millions of people, in one way or another, is one of the best parts of my job. There's always something new to do, and new techniques to apply to solve problems better. I get to work with many very interesting and smart people.
