Maternity benefits and paid parental leave

Back to Health and wellness
Benefit available in most locations. Plan details vary.
We’re here to support our people as they grow their families, with supportive benefits from maternity coverage to paid parental leave.

Maternity care

With any of our medical plans, you have access to the care and support you need including prenatal care, labs and ultrasounds, inpatient maternity care (including delivery/postpartum care and home birth), midwife services and lactation supports. Coverage level and your cost may vary based on which medical plan you choose.

Maternity leave

Pregnant women who are full-time, short-term or part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week are automatically eligible for this leave starting from their hire date.

From the date of birth, maternity leave typically allows 6 weeks to recover from a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks from the date of birth for a C-section delivery.

Maternity leave can be extended if the doctor recommends and provides documentation for additional recovery time.

Pregnant women can start their maternity leave up to 4 weeks before their due date with the disability reason of pregnancy. Any maternity time needed earlier than that requires doctor certification.

Maternity leave runs before Meta's paid parental leave begins.

Paid parental leave

If you’re a full-time employee when your child is born or placed for adoption with you, we offer 4 months (equivalent to 87 weekdays) of paid leave for you to bond with your new child.

You may take paid parental leave all at once or intermittently within one year after the birth or placement of your child.

Pay during leave

People on paid parental leave receive the equivalent of up to 4 months of their base pay while on leave. Their pay may come from a variety of sources, including from any eligible state programs and from Meta.

For women on maternity leave, short-term disability pays 100% of their base pay for weeks 2–16 and 70% of their base pay for weeks 17–26.
