We are looking for a Research Scientist to join the Meta AI Speech team. The AI Speech team creates spoken language technology to make it faster and easier for people to build community and connect with others around the world. Our mission is to conduct product-motivated research in ML/AI and design, develop and deploy state of the art algorithms to the rest of Meta. We work in all aspects of AI for speech and audio processing, including speech recognition, speech synthesis, speaker identification, keyword spotting, and acoustic event detection. Our work is largely focused on the areas of voice interfaces, including speech technologies for RayBan Stories, Portal devices, Oculus VR headsets, Augmented Reality, the Metaverse, and video understanding, including transcription, captioning, and content understanding. As a Research Scientist, you will help us develop innovative models and algorithms and apply them to large-scale production speech tasks. We are looking for a research scientist with a focus on automatic speech recognition. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in automatic speech recognition, end-to-end ASR, acoustic modeling, machine learning, or related areas, and have a passion for speech technology and voice interfaces.
AI Applied Research Scientist, Speech Recognition Responsibilities
  • Lead, collaborate, and execute on research that pushes forward the state-of-the-art in automatic speech recognition.
  • Directly contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results.
  • Work with large data, and develop machine learning models for both server-based and on-device systems.
  • Prioritize research that can be applied to Meta's product development.
  • Play a significant role in healthy cross-functional collaboration.
  • Mentor other team members.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A PhD in Artificial Intelligence (AI), computer science, or related technical fields.
  • 4+ year(s) of work experience in an industry, university, or government lab
  • Research experience in one or more of these areas: speech recognition, speech processing, machine learning, deep learning, or related fields.
  • Publications in machine learning, and/or leading speech conferences and workshops.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving AI models and large datasets.
  • Experience working with machine learning libraries like Pytorch, Tensorflow, etc.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with developing machine learning models in at least one of the following areas: automatic speech recognition, end-to-end ASR, unsupervised/semi-supervised training, on-device modeling, acoustic modeling, language modeling, or relevant areas.
  • 6+ year(s) of work experience in an industry, university, or government lab
  • Experience with large scale model training, implementing algorithms, and evaluating ASR systems for booths server side and on-device solutions.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences such as ICASSP, INTERSPEECH, or similar.
  • Experience taking ideas from research to production.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally.

$173,000/year to $241,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
