Meta is looking for a Director to join our Governance Team. The team's mission is to partner with teams across Meta to design, build, and manage new decision-making mechanisms and institutions that give people greater power over Facebook products. We are the team that built the Oversight Board to govern Facebook’s approach to content moderation and we are pioneering new solutions to an array of important challenges.
As the Director, you will provide leadership around the capabilities necessary to move the organization forward towards company and industry leading governance solutions. Your organization will maintain and build specific capabilities and areas of expertise, including research and design, partnerships, and public affairs for Governance all while driving innovation and improvement. You will serve as the internal subject matter expert on key governance matters and capabilities, and maintain relevant external networks. As the Director, you will lead teams and oversee the design and creation of solutions with our partners in Product, Operations, Legal, Communications, Marketing, Policy, and Research. Working closely with product teams, you will represent multiple stakeholder interests across initiatives. You will develop and provide strategic vision to cross-functional teams and projects and ensure their successful delivery.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader, communicator, and strategic thinker. This person must be able to bridge and bring together a wide array of perspectives and translate them into actionable ideas and processes. Finally, this candidate will be a strong team facilitator, with a demonstrated ability to partner with several different stakeholders and bring people together to achieve shared goals. You should be passionate about the services we provide and the people that we serve.
Governance Director Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee strategy that guides execution across multiple functions
  • Create strategy that has company-wide impact
  • Prioritize investments and resources to move the strategy forward
  • Lead efforts to engage key stakeholders in discussions around strategic initiatives and high priority projects. Ensure shared accountabilities (goals, resources, etc.)
  • Partner with our partners in Product, Operations, Legal, Communications, Marketing, Policy, and Research to enable project delivery and establish internal processes and procedures
  • Define relevant metrics, and report on trends relative to goals
  • Build a long-term strategic vision and goals that connect to the Governance team portfolio
  • Communicate as the internal face of key Governance capabilities
  • Periodic travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in a technology or policy related field
  • At least 6 years of experience leading others and building and managing teams
  • Experience working in or with multiple sectors, including the private sector, government, and civil society
  • Experience in a client-service or consultative role which might include management consulting, creative services, entrepreneurship, design, project management or operations
  • Experience in product, partnerships, and product marketing capacity
  • Demonstrated team leadership, partnership, influencing and communication skills
  • Proven track record of executing against strategy, prioritizing teams and resources accordingly
  • Knowledge to lead multidisciplinary teams in a highly cross-functional environment, building consensus through collaboration and supporting individual style and growth
  • Understanding of technology and platforms, including policies and technical operations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in collaboration between legal, policy or political science and technology
  • Excellence in business risk evaluation, scenario planning, forecasting, or in-market experimentation/piloting
  • Advanced degree, such as a MBA or JD
