Meta is seeking a Wearables Systems Architect to join the Reality Labs Team. As a key leader, you'll drive architecture for upcoming Wearables products, including AI Glasses, AI Wrist, and Augmented Reality Glass devices. You'll help shape the overall strategy and roadmap, collaborating with teams designing, building, and testing prototypes for future consumer AR and AI experiences. In this role, you'll define and converge complex sub-systems and product architectures that push beyond state-of-the-art consumer Wearable systems. This includes developing new sensing systems, display/optics systems, input devices, and full AR Glasses. To succeed, you'll need to effectively communicate technical concepts across cross-functional teams, driving incubation of new technologies from proof of concept to mass production. We're looking for a unique system designer or architect with a broad engineering background in electrical engineering, computer science, semiconductors, or related fields.
Wearables Systems Architect Responsibilities
  • Define and architect platform systems across multiple subsystems (compute/memory, displays/optics, EE, sensors, audio, wireless connectivity, I/O, and firmware) from conception to production
  • Collaborate with system architects and SW engineering teams to document requirements for supported workloads and select/define compute silicon with suitable HW accelerators/cores
  • Maintain detailed specifications and assumptions for workloads to ensure alignment across teams when implementing new features
  • Conduct workload profiling to analyze system resource utilization metrics for existing and new software features on target compute platforms
  • Perform analysis and trade-off studies to inform architecture decisions
  • Develop engineering solutions for key architectural problems in early concept development, translating marketing requirements into product
  • Effectively communicate technology and product strategy to internal and external stakeholders
  • Guide management and partner teams on long-term technology investments
  • Establish hardware system metrics, standards, and tools
  • Drive the development of system requirements to create new AR and/or AI experiences, advancing technology and research roadmaps
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of product experience in electrical, systems, or computer engineering
  • Experience with architecture definition and/or systems engineering in areas such as electrical systems, silicon, firmware, audio, sensors, wireless connectivity, displays/optical systems
  • Fundamentals in computer architecture
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept models
  • Proven communication skills working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience working with partnerships teams and external partners at both supply base and product levels
  • Work well in teams and thrive in ambiguity
  • In depth problem-solving skills, with experience mapping trade spaces and drive concepts into prototypes
  • Interest in new technology areas and willingness to collaborate with subject matter experts
  • Proven skills in System on Chip (SoC) evaluation, optical systems, sensors, computer vision (CV) algorithms, software, and artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Prior expereince making architectural trade-offs collaboratively with experts in different fields
  • Understanding of consumer electronics and wearable systems across the stack
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of memory subsystems, including mass storage and filesystem, volatile memory and memory management, impacts on overall system performance
  • Prior experience creating system models to analyze compute, latency, and communication interface bandwidths across multiple subsystems in heterogeneous compute environments, with the goal of defining system architecture that meets product definition goals
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: firmware development, programming, computer vision, Android/Zephyr OSs, game development, complex sensing systems
  • Experience with Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality or systems that capture/process/deliver audio-visual, IMU, or other positional data streams
  • Proven skills in model system power and inform architectural decisions based on trade-offs (e.g., battery life, thermals, silicon roadmaps, power load profiles)
  • MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience
