We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineering Lead to join our team at Meta Reality Labs. As a key member of the hardware systems engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the convergence of complex and novel sub-system and product architectures aimed at pushing the state-of-the-art consumer mixed reality systems. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to derive and interpret business and operational needs into technical requirements, determine critical interactions between subsystems, and work closely with engineering and field-based operations teams to articulate success criteria. Furthermore, you will execute validation and verification activities for new product integration, including system-level and subsystem testing, to ensure that the hardware systems meet the specified requirements and function correctly in the intended environment. You will address complex engineering challenges by leveraging a broad understanding of Meta's infrastructure, identifying trends and systemic issues in the hardware fleet, and driving resolutions. This role requires expert technical communication with cross-functional teams across industrial design, product design, electrical engineering, displays and optics, partnerships, supply chain, and core technology groups to drive incubation of new technologies from proof of concept through integration into products for mass production. Effective communication and documentation skills are essential, as you will need to write and review code, develop documentation, and debug complex systems. As a leader in the organization, you will also be responsible for guiding and mentoring other engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget. You will work closely with leaders to develop and implement strategic plans, and will be expected to contribute to the development of best practices and standards for systems engineering within the organization.

  • Establish strategic relationships with product peers in engineering, research, business, design, and user research teams to define product requirements and architecture.
  • Provide technical ownership and guidance to make crucial hardware product decisions, enabling the realization of cutting-edge MR devices for Meta's users.
  • Collaborate effectively across all levels of management and individual contributors both internally and externally.
  • Drive business results, optimize overall business objectives, and foster an environment of collaboration and innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in integrated hardware and software product development, with a proven track record of successfully delivering products to market.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple full-life cycle product launches, including sustainment.
  • Proven technical proficiency in one or more of the following hardware disciplines: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, display, optics, and systems engineering.
  • Good leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional technology teams through personal accountability and influence.
  • Clear communication skills, capacity to articulate complex technical concepts and drive alignment on product requirements and architecture, both within and across organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12+ years of direct relevant experience
  • Previous AR/VR or Wearables experience
  • Previous Display, Optics and SoC experience
  • Ph.D. degree in Engineering or related field
