Prototyping Engineer Responsibilities
- Collaborate with industrial design, engineering, and research teams to resolve design challenges, create bespoke machined or printed parts, and help improve prototype processes.
- Design, build, and take prototypes to increasing levels of fidelity.
- Work with product-focused engineers to translate early prototypes into potential products.
- Use hand sketches and computer-aided designs (CAD) to create 3D models according to established specifications.
- Drive large-scale project work and establish achievable project loads for team members to achieve goals.
- Focus on new technologies and ideate, improve, and unblock cross-functional partners and inform best designs.
- Communicate and understand client needs, establish effective timelines, and execute to the required quality.
- Leverage internal and external teams and manufacturing resources to expand the capability of the team and deliver on projects.
- Design and finish concepts to a high-level of presentation quality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or related field and 2 years of work experience in job offered or in a project management or engineering-related occupation.
- Requires 24 months of experience in each of the following:
- 1. Project management in a manufacturing or prototyping environment
- 2. Familiarity with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, electro-mechanical assembly and 3D Printing
- 3. Participation in a broad range of needs in the shop
- 4. Finding the best ways to collaborate with other teams
- 5. Computers and able to pick up new technologies quickly
- 6. Project management
- 7. Analyze CAD models and mechanical drawings to support component fabrication with critical features and tolerances
- 8. Apply knowledge of machine shop procedures, machine-tool setup, and operating techniques in hardware prototyping environment.

$259,886/year to $270,281/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
