Engineering
The Virtual Platforms & Reference Modeling team is an integral part of the End-to-End (E2E) & Infra organization in RL Silicon. As the manager of this team, your work will focus on building Virtual Platforms for AR/VR custom silicon chips to enable early software enablement and silicon system validation. You will lead a team of engineers who design, develop, optimize and maintain complex Virtual Platforms for custom silicon chips. This work includes developing and enhancing reference models for ASIC blocks, integrating them into Virtual Platforms, and working with the Silicon DevInfra team to ensure scalable provisioning of the platforms.
Virtual Platforms & Reference Modeling Manager Responsibilities
  • Develop Technical Roadmap: Create a technical roadmap for Virtual Platforms that aligns with the custom silicon roadmap, and the E2E org's mission to de-risk the product integration of custom silicon, focusing on two key goals:
  • Enable early FW/SW development on custom silicon platforms
  • Enable pre-silicon validation content, early chip-to-chip interoperability testing, and silicon validation platforms’ continuity
  • Lead Execution: Lead the team to execute on the roadmap that actualizes the E2E vision, including:
  • Ensuring a high-quality Virtual Platforms release for each SoC milestone
  • Improving Virtual Platforms fidelity with regard to silicon, and enabling early power and performance profiling
  • Enhancing the user experience by working closely with Silicon DevInfra to provision platforms at scale
  • Bridging the gaps between RTL simulation, pre-silicon high-fidelity platforms (FPGAs/Emulators), and post-silicon platforms
  • Build Durable Partnerships: Establish durable partnerships with the DV/SiVal/FW/SW/DevInfra functions across RL to maximize the benefits of Virtual Platforms throughout the silicon and product development cycle, including:
  • Publishing the roadmap for Virtual Platforms, articulating their capabilities, and guiding the cross-functional user base in FW/SW development and silicon validation
  • Integrating Virtual Platforms with cross-functional teams’ development and validation vehicles, aligning deliverables and timelines
  • Understanding cross-functional user requirements, translating those requirements into actionable tasks, and delivering high-quality Virtual Platforms that meet their needs
  • Support Team Members: Support team members by setting goals, objectives, and priorities, providing direction guidance and support, and helping with career planning.
  • Standardize Platform Development: Offer technical guidance to engineers in developing best practices and standards for virtual platform development
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards, maintaining a safe and secure work environment
  • Stay Up-to-Date: Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating new tools and methodologies for potential adoption
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Solid understanding of SoC architecture and familiarity with silicon development phases
  • Experience with custom silicon design and development, including architecture, modeling, and RTL simulation
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, including code base management, HLOS, RTOS, FW/SW development, and development environments
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with customers, stakeholders, and developers
  • Familiarity with pre- and post-silicon bring-up, HW-SW co-development, and HW-SW co-validation
  • 3+ years of experience in a people management, supervision, or team leadership role
  • 2+ years directly managing engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in simulation platform development or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following programming languages: SystemC, C, C++
  • Experience with virtual platform tools such as Synopsys Virtualizer, Cadence Virtual Platform, or QEMU
  • Familiarity with ARM and RISC-V architectures, and Linux and other HLOS
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies, and experience with version control tools
  • Experience in planning and strategic problem solving.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and expertise in virtual platform development
  • Experience motivating team members and fostering their growth
  • Experience problem-solving and decision-making
