The Programming Languages and Runtime (PL&R) team is a part of the Infra organization at Meta, which is responsible for driving the servers and technologies that drive the Meta family of products: AI/ML, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, AR/VR. The PL&R team specializes in compilers, virtual machines, and programming languages, and developer experience. Our work on compilers helps to make our data-centers run more efficiently and reduce our ecological footprint. Our work on programming languages and developer experience make our developers more efficient in their work. We lead company-wide infrastructure changes affecting 10s of thousands of developers daily. We contribute and collaborate with the Open Source community on many of our projects.
Manager, Software Engineering - Programming Languages Responsibilities
  • Be a subject matter expert in the field of: systems, performance compilers, virtual machines or programming languages
  • Be both highly technical and an effective people manager
  • Lead teams that deliver on multiple projects of increasing dependencies in an ambiguous or high-impact area
  • Work with your team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy
  • Drive roadmap creation and execution
  • Collaborate with various functions, drive engineering initiatives and have an impact at an organizational level
  • Work with cross functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes
  • Partner with leadership to influence and drive org design, contribution and prioritization
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Master at least one of the following programming languages: C++, Java, Python, PHP, Rust, Swift
  • Experience in: compilers, operating systems, computer architecture or performance analysis
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or relevant field (In lieu of degree, 4+ years similar work experience)
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in programming language design, compiler optimizers, backend code generators, and debuggers
  • Preferred experience with any of the following: JVM, Rust, Hermes, Java, LLVM, HHVM, C++ Compiler

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
