We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with experience developing and shipping consumer electronics, wearables, and robotic systems. This leader will drive innovation on hardware systems to enable business success in a dynamic, competitive environment. They will do this by leading a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers with access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
Principal Mechanical Engineer (R&D) Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical team through the full product development cycle to deliver mechanical component/subsystem designs from concept to production.
  • Play a critical role in the definition and execution of long-term roadmaps in partnership with external and internal hardware and research teams.
  • Partner with researchers and industry to advance TRL of component technology and proactively de-risk integration.
  • Mentor and coach other mechanical engineers.
  • Leverage technical knowledge to influence business strategy and and research portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience developing high-volume consumer products with stringent SWAP-C constraints in such as wearables, mobile devices, or similar
  • 10+ years of experience in 3D CAD modeling (NX or similar)
  • Experience in advancing design and manufacturing technologies to enable world-class products (e.g., overmolding, lamination).
  • Experience influencing VPs & Directors on business strategy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical depth in Robotics, Textiles, and/or Elastomers.
  • An extensive invention and patent portfolio.
  • Experience leading industry standards and/or driving suppliers to advance state of the art
  • A history of creating an environment of mentorship in a world-class mechanical team.
  • Experience directing modeling teams to use multipart, multiphysics simulations in order to optimize design.

$204,000/year to $281,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
