At Meta Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Product Design Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing hardware systems for Mixed Reality, or New Technology Initiatives. You will become part of a team exploring developing concepts through prototyping and into mass-production consumer electronics. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains other than mechanical engineering.
Product Design Engineer Responsibilities
  • Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems
  • Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product
  • Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems while working with cross functional technical teams
  • Design for Manufacturability - Ensure the design is robust and the equipment, process and materials are scalable to ramp
  • Collaborate with internal cross functional teams and external industry partners.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, and consumer electronics industry experience of at least 5 years
  • Demonstrated mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, 3d/2d drawing skill.
  • 5+ years of hands-on product design and development experience in high volume consumer electronics, including complex subsystems and/or full systems ownership
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers on process and equipment development for optical assembly
  • Experience performing and designing DOEs, tolerance analysis, GD&T,data analysis, SPC control, Gauge R&R, root cause investigation, failure analysis, implement corrective action
  • Working knowledge in material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, and glass
  • Experience leading communications with cross-functional partners, fluent English
  • Testing and analysis experience (TA, DFMEA, Design of Experiments, etc.)
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NX CAD Experience designing and shipping products with Asia-based supply chain
  • Experience on cell phone, VR, Laptop design, or other complex consumer electronics products design.
