WhatsApp is looking for an experienced Communications Manager to join our small and agile team. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about private communications and the future of technology, including helping people to learn how to use AI to be creative and productive on WhatsApp. It’s also someone who’s creative and curious about the changing media environment and social conversations around how people connect with friends and family across the globe, and can bring a proven track record of launching consumer products on a global scale through the press, social influencers and opinion-makers. We are looking for someone who has carried out high-profile campaigns and brings established relationships with media and influencers in the U.S., but also has a very global mindset. This is a hands-on role with significant day-to-day responsibilities working with leaders across WhatsApp.
Communications Manager, WhatsApp Responsibilities
  • Devise and lead launches and proactive media and social/influencer campaigns for WhatsApp products and initiatives through press, influencers, opinion-makers.
  • Represent the Communications team in a wide range of internal, high-impact discussions including with cross-functional partners in engineering, product, policy, legal, and other groups within the company.
  • Counsel cross-functional partners in engineering, product, policy, legal, and other groups within the company on communications considerations for product updates.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with your key audiences – press, influencers and opinion-makers.
  • Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of time-sensitive issues with high stakes and visibility.
  • Prepare and train spokespeople as well as represent WhatsApp to the media.
  • Create and consistently land the story of WhatsApp and the benefits that our privacy and utility features bring to users around the world.
  • Develop and create a wide range of communications materials including blog posts, social media outreach and responses, communications plans, statements, briefing materials for executives and more.
  • Simplify complex ideas or technical issues and make them understandable and relatable to a wide range of audiences globally.
  • Support reactive and crisis communications to quickly drive a cross-functional team when needed.
  • Manage multiple PR agencies to support communitions efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in communications.
  • Experience developing media campaigns for targeted audiences.
  • Experience with global product launches and consulting with product managers.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, policy, legal, and other communications teams.
  • Experience managing crises communications and developing communications strategies.
  • Experience creating messaging materials, and working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Public Policy, Marketing, and Research.
  • Experience working in technology and using WhatsApp.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing global communications campaigns.
  • Proven track record of successful experimentation with influencer/social-first campaigns and launches.
  • Experience working with a creative and public relations agency or communications consultants.
  • Experience working on product launches outside the U.S.
  • Experience creating product narratives aligned to regional moments around the globe.

$145,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
