  • Provide legal and strategic advice to internal clients on compliance with U.S. export controls, U.S. customs laws, international import and export laws, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams across the company to assess and mitigate export, import, and other compliance risks related to business initiatives and transactions.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of policies, processes, and controls intended to enhance Meta’s global trade compliance program, and in the remediation of issues identified in audits and investigations.
  • Develop and provide training and communications to employees and third parties on global trade compliance matters.
  • Develop, review, and advise on global trade compliance provisions in contracts.
  • Undertake special projects and support other compliance program initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar or foreign equivalent.
  • 8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience.
  • 5+ years experience counseling on U.S. export controls and import laws, either at a law firm or in-house, including experience interpreting and advising on classifications and required authorizations under the Export Administration Regulations, customs exemptions, import classification, country of origin (COO) determinations, COO labeling, and responding to regulatory inquiries.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating global trade compliance contract provisions.
  • Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills.
  • Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in-house or advising clients at technology, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and/or industries engaged in large scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with medical device importation.
  • Experience with U.S. and international sanctions laws and regulations, U.S. antiboycott compliance, non-U.S. export and import regulations, and anti-corruption compliance-related matters.
  • Experience conducting internal investigations relating to corporate global trade compliance matters, performing root cause analysis, and developing and implementing remedial actions.
  • Familiarity with other compliance risk areas (e.g., competition, political activities).
  • Experience working with global cross-functional teams.
