Facebook’s (now Meta) first office in Dublin opened in 2009 with a small team of about 30 people. Since then, Meta’s presence in Dublin—as well as the Finance team—has grown to be the largest campus outside of the United States.
“When I joined the company in 2014, it was a much smaller company,” says Majella Mungovan., VP, Finance Operations. “But since then, the employee base has grown by almost five times. Thousands of people now work out of the Dublin office, with over 100 nationalities represented.
Our Finance team has grown in line with the rest of the company and we have grown most of our Finance Managers from within the team. And even though we are growing, we have managed to hold onto many elements of a startup environment such as the level of access we have to senior executives within the company.

At Meta, our values are central to how we operate. We have a culture of trialling creative new ideas, taking the learnings and then adapting our solutions. The culture is very flat, and nobody—not even our CFO—has a private office.
I'm a natural builder so the best part of my job is the fact that every day I get the opportunity to build new tools, processes and teams with brilliant, positive, engaged colleagues. We are privileged to be able to use cutting edge technology such as cognitive computing and machine learning to take leaps forward in how we best support our community, customers, stakeholders and employees.”

“Managing revenue and operations at a company growing in the way that Meta is, means that you grow professionally every single day,” says Jerome de Zanet, Dublin’s Finance Director. “In order to support this growth, you will come across incredibly smart people, and that will push you even further.
But all of that hard work comes with the need to take a rest. After five years of working at Meta, employees receive a paid four-week break on top of their annual holidays and vacation days. It’s known as ‘recharge.’ Meta knows that people need to switch off for a little while in order to come back fully energized.”

“There are a number of posters with Meta slogans dotted around Meta offices,” Lin F., a Payroll Manager, shares. “They show the internal philosophies and ethos of Meta. The one that resonates with me most is ‘Nothing at Meta is someone else’s problem.'
I work on the International Payroll team. We are a relatively small team but despite our size, we manage the payroll processes for a large number of entities across EMEA, including the largest regional office outside of the US, Canada and the UK.
Working at Meta gives me the opportunity to work on things that interest me most. I also get the opportunity to challenge myself in my job, which helps me build a fulfilling career.
My role is unique because I am the first dedicated EMEA Payroll XFN Partner, with a focus on the Compensation and Benefits teams, Life@ teams and the Accounting teams. I have the opportunity to work with a number of XFN teams to ensure the end-to-end payroll process for all benefits across EMEA entities are efficient, accurate and compliant.”

Anette N., Finance Operations Manager
Anette N. describes her role at Meta as different from the typical role of a Finance Operations Manager. “A big part of my job is focusing on partnership with Customers and Sales teams in EMEA,” she explains.
“My team and I spend time with customers to understand the payment blockers and other pain points when it comes to processing billing from Meta. I love working with sales and our outsourcing partners to make the experience as good as possible for our customers all while achieving great results.
There are always interesting projects and initiatives to get involved in, both within Finance and across other teams. The ceiling is high when it comes to implementing new ideas and we get to work closely with the Engineering team on cool automations and new technology.”

Paul B., Program and Analytics Manager
“Meta is the first place where I've worked in finance,” Paul B., a Program and Analytics Manager, says. "Prior to Meta, I worked as a Product Manager in the small business lending team at Amazon. From my experience interacting with finance at other companies, finance at Meta is quite unique.
In partnering with our Data Science and Engineering teams, we are leading the way to solve the challenge of serving such a vast customer base by leveraging machine learning in a way that has never been possible before. I get to collaborate with world-class engineers and data scientists to build tools and systems that no one else has.
I've also never worked somewhere that allows me the autonomy and ability to self-discover the most impactful projects out there to work on.
The majority of small businesses struggle with their cash flow and getting access to credit to grow. I love hearing from small business owners who attribute their success to Meta advertising and the advertising credit we provide.”

Eimear M., Revenue Accounting Manager
“What I love about Meta is that entire projects can be created based on opportunities that come across in my day-to-day work,” says Eimear M., Revenue Accounting Manager. “I’ve really enjoyed seeing some of my ideas come to life and getting to collaborate with teams across the globe throughout the process. I believe it’s the people and the culture here at Meta that makes the experience so special.
Meta has also allowed me to pursue interests in areas outside of finance. One of the most interesting to date has been my involvement in Women@ Dublin, one of Meta’s many resource groups. I worked as a co-lead for the Dublin site and gained exposure to many teams across the company that I would otherwise have been unaware of!
One of Meta’s values is ‘Move Fast’, and I can certainly relate to that. A typical day could involve working with our Singapore teams in the morning to create a new entity as we expand our global presence, meeting with business partners in India to chat about progress made in our connectivity efforts, and maybe jumping on some calls with the US to chat through global reporting in the evening.
Meta actively encourages internal mobility and I just recently took advantage of this, moving to the Revenue Accounting team. I’m really enjoying working on the ‘other side’—getting to see the products and services that our infrastructure supports and learning more about how the business works."
