Nick T., Software Engineer
“I spent most of my career working in the video gaming industry. I loved it, but after a while began to realize I was solving the same problems. I met up with a former manager who joined Meta, and she told me about the exciting projects they were working on. She convinced me to apply and eventually join Meta as a software engineer. I joined the Meta Spark team when Meta was starting to build the Meta Quest team in London. Using my video game industry skills, I work on the camera side of Facebook apps and help develop the core technology, 3D graphics and AR effects, like the popular Game of Thrones Night King filter for Stories—it’s like creating mini games.
I get to help bring this new technology to life at a company with an incredible culture of innovation and collaboration. At Meta, we’re encouraged to try new ideas through hackathons and have an open dialogue, allowing us to continue innovating the way we build communities. AR and VR are the stepping stones to enriching the human experience, and our free AR technology makes the Facebook connections around the world more meaningful. To me, this is the evolution of gaming; we’re giving people tools to enhance their experience with the real world, and it’s exciting to be part of it.” —Nick T., Software Engineer
