The world has changed rapidly since the internet was invented. And while recent technological advances are making it possible for people to communicate and get information quicker and easier than ever before, financial inclusion is still evolving. Even today, 1.7 billion people across the globe don’t have access to basic financial services.
Novi, a subsidiary of the Facebook company, is committed to helping people around the world access affordable financial services. Novi’s first product will be a digital wallet for the Diem network—a new global payment system built on innovative blockchain technology—that will make sending money as easy as sending a message.
We talked with Sivanne G., Director and Head of Fraud at Novi in Tel Aviv, to learn more about Novi’s mission and the work she and her team are doing. Novi’s mission: Empowering people with affordable financial services
“I chose to work on Novi in Tel Aviv because I’m deeply passionate about our mission to provide people around the world with inclusive, safe, and secure financial services. Our first step in this journey is to make remittances easier and more affordable for people. By reducing these costs, and eliminating hidden fees, we can help remittance senders share more with their families.
At Facebook, we have the support and scale to build a new product that can truly make a positive impact in people’s lives and communities. My teammates and I are all working toward the same goal, and I find it inspiring to be a part of such a mission-driven group of people.”
Fulfilling our commitment to keeping Novi secure
“As Director and Head of Fraud for Novi in Tel Aviv, I support the Data Science and Data Engineering teams within fraud and compliance. Our goal is to increase financial inclusion with a commitment to preventing harmful activity.
When it comes to managing fraud and compliance, it’s all about detection. We leverage data to detect and prevent real-time attempts to conduct fraudulent or illicit activity on the platform. The team in Tel-Aviv is involved in the entire customer and product lifecycle: we use analytics to define the goal and direction we should take for specific challenges and then apply advanced data science and engineering to make it happen.
To me, there’s nothing more exciting than building systems that will ensure people everywhere can safely participate in the global economy. There are endless opportunities to drive change and make a difference.”

“Working on Novi at Facebook, I’m surrounded by passionate people in a diverse, bottoms-up organization. I’ve found this to be a unique experience, as everyone is encouraged to make a positive and meaningful impact on our mission while being open and vocal about their suggestions and concerns.
