The News Partnerships team at Facebook works towards building and enhancing partnerships with news organizations. The team collaborates with a variety of publishers from all over the world, including some of the biggest emerging newsrooms in every region. They are focused on helping news partners drive value for their businesses through Facebook products, tools and services. The News Partnerships team is growing fast in all regions, and we are hiring for a range of positions such as Strategic Partner Development Managers and Partner Solutions Managers.
We speak to several members on the Asia Pacific News Partnerships team - Alice, Andrew, Chiman, Hedirman and Niharika - to learn more about the work that they do, Facebook's culture and how they are driving impact in a fast-paced environment.
Meet the Asia Pacific News Partnerships team!

Tell us what it's like to be a part of the News Partnerships team in one sentence?

Andrew: It's a very dynamic environment that exposes you to new and exciting challenges every single day!
Alice: Everyone on the team works hard but also knows how to have fun!
Andrew H., News Partnerships Lead, Australia and New Zealand

Can you share about some of the key initiatives that News Partnerships drives in Asia Pacific?

Andrew: We work with partners to help launch new Facebook and Instagram features such as IGTV (Instagram's video app), Breaking News tags and Storylines (which allows people on Facebook to follow updates to a developing story).
Alice: This year, we've launched partnerships with third party fact checkers in Indonesia, India, and the Philippines, and we'll continue to support the fact checking community in Asia. It shows our commitment to reducing the spread of misinformation on the platform.
Alice B., Strategic Partner Development Manager, Indonesia

What are you most passionate about driving in your role?

Hedirman: It's exciting to be at the intersection of technology and media. Many of my colleagues, like me, were former journalists. We all want to help build the future of news. However, technology alone is not enough - we're here to make sure the human element stays ever present, and that we collaborate meaningfully with the news industry.
Chiman: Before joining Facebook, I was the China correspondent in a leading media organization in Hong Kong, and everyday, I felt I was creating real impact with the stories that I reported. In my current role, I help bridge Facebook with the news industry, and I'm still driving impact every day. I'm proud to be a part of a team that believes in building an informed community and helping people to discover informative and impactful stories created by journalists all over the world.
Alice: When I was a journalist, the best part of my job was when a story that I've reported was informative and meaningful to people. There's no point in making the best TV program when there are only a few people watching it. Now at Facebook, I see my role as helping news organizations to distribute their content as widely as possible to people who will find it meaningful and relevant, and that's very exciting.
Chiman N., Entertainment Partnerships Manager, Taiwan and Hong Kong

What’s one standout moment for you at Facebook?

Hedirman: We were conducting a workshop in Yangon for journalists and the power got cut out. We had to improvise, so instead of a formal presentation, I had about 20 journalists huddled around my 13-inch laptop and I continued to share our training session with them. It was a glimpse of the challenges they face daily to deliver stories to the world. Many journalists in this region are working in really challenging environments, and our team really wants to do all we can to help.
Chiman: It's hard to pin down one moment, but I've had as many standout moments with my team as I have had with our partners. I'm enthusiastic about working with my partners to engage with their audiences through our technology - whether it is through Facebook Live to break a story and increase social awareness, or using our AR/VR product to interact with audiences. It's very fulfilling to see how we can create positive impact together!
Andrew: It would be visiting Facebook's News Partnerships headquarters at New York! The passion, energy and problem-solving capabilities of the News Partnerships and Product teams were awe-inspiring.
Hedirman S., Partner Solutions Manager, Asia Pacific

How does your team contribute to Facebook's mission of bringing the world closer together?

Andrew: We do so by using Facebook products and features to help journalists discover, explain and distribute important stories, and through this collaboration, we help build the news community and bring the world closer together. In addition, we support the monetization of news brands on Facebook to help fund future stories.
Niharika: Our team helps publishers and journalists grow their audience while maintaining a direct and authentic connection. News Partnerships must constantly innovate our news products to align with how people are consuming and sharing news.
Niharika P, Strategic Partner Development Manager, News, India

Which Facebook value is your personal favourite, and why?

Niharika: This is hard as I relate to all! My favorite though is Focus On Impact. We have lean teams that get pulled constantly between the urgent and important matters, and focusing on impact always helps me to prioritize on where I should spend my time on.
