From hiring and guiding new talent to a team where they can truly shine, to developing benefits that enrich the lives of all team members, the recruiting team at Meta puts people first. “Leaders here truly believe recruiting is one of the fundamental steps we need to get right in order to build for the future and accomplish our mission,” Saseekala M., a business recruiter in APAC, explains. “This sets Meta apart and makes such a meaningful difference.”
Behind the scenes with the recruiting team in APAC
Wensi C., a technical recruiting lead, recalls her time as a sourcer a few years ago and reflects on why she wanted to make the shift to being a recruiter. “I thought about what sparked the most joy for me. As a sourcer, I spent most of my time engaging with candidates, often in the early stages of the hiring process. While I enjoyed that, I found I was most inspired when helping to solve problems or advocating for the candidates I was working with during their interview process.”
Katrina C., a recruiting sourcing lead, had the opposite journey. Starting as a technical recruiter, she made the shift to sourcing candidates. “There is often a misconception that a sourcer is a ‘junior recruiter’, but that couldn’t be further from the truth,” she explains. “We work together to support the recruiting journey, and we’re responsible for different stages of the cycle. As a sourcer, I’ve been able to tackle big challenges such as filling complex roles and pushing myself to go beyond the sourcing strategies I already know. I’ve also gained experience in project management, resource planning and have been a mentor to other sourcers.”
Collaborating to create a well-rounded hiring process
“It takes a village to get things done,” Joanne K., a recruiting manager, says with a smile. “Throughout the hiring lifecycle, the recruiting team collaborates cross-functionally with various teams— like the candidate experience team, diversity and people partners— who help ensure candidates have the best experiences, and that inclusivity and diversity are always top of mind.”
Wensi agrees, and recalls one of her favorite memories working with the diversity team at the height of the pandemic: “There were layoffs within the travel industry, and our diversity partners reached out to companies to ensure their impacted employees knew how to get in touch with our recruiting team. It was a rewarding experience to help.”
Tremendous opportunity for growth
A sourcing lead, John M., recognizes the incredible number of growth opportunities within the recruiting team. “I once heard a leader here say, 'Don’t mistake motion for progress’ and that really resonated with me. I was already part of the recruiting team when I realized my biggest strength lies in empowering and mentoring others. Now a people manager, I’m able to utilize my skills to help find growth opportunities for the people on my team.”
