The Global Business Group (GBG) team at Meta connects small businesses from all over the world with Meta solutions, such as Facebook Pages and advertising strategies, that help them grow. The team makes up one of only two sales channels responsible for Meta’s multi-billion dollar advertising business, and they help over six million advertisers to connect with their customers and communities on Meta technologies everyday.
Just as there are diverse markets worldwide, there are also different teams within GBG that specialize in serving the unique needs of different markets and regions. We interviewed Sarita S., Director of Global Business Group, Small and Medium Business, Southeast Asia and several members of the GBG Southeast Asia Account and Partner Management team to find out more about what they do in their roles and the career opportunities available. Sarita leads a very diverse team with members from different backgrounds, nationalities and career experiences who serve the small and medium business communities in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar.
“Our mission at Meta is to give people the power to build community and to bring the world closer together, and small and medium businesses are vital to our mission,” says Sarita. “They drive the local economy, and as local economies grow, communities grow. In Southeast Asia, small and medium businesses drive more than half the revenue in every country within the region.”

Sarita S., Director of Global Business Group, Small and Medium Business, Southeast Asia

What impact does the GBG team make in Southeast Asia?

My team builds the advertiser ecosystem in Southeast Asia through education, business development and market development. We help to identify growing industry verticals and educate advertisers on understanding how to grow their businesses by providing personalized experiences through data, insights and powerful platforms. We guide advertisers in developing their go-to-market strategies and then test new approaches to ensure success. We also consult with advertisers to sharpen their marketing and business strategies so that they can unlock their growth potential.

How do people on your team achieve success?

The most successful members on my team have the following qualities:
  • They are entrepreneurial and passionate about helping businesses expand into new markets to diversify their customer base.
  • They enjoy digital advertising, and are endlessly curious about new technologies and trends.
  • They are collaborative and thrive in a dynamic, team-focused environment.
  • They are problem solvers who are creative thinkers and have strong analytical skills.

What are the career opportunities that exist within your team?

Southeast Asia is growing at a staggering rate. We are home to more than 600 million people, representing a mobile-first generation of consumers who have leapfrogged desktop computers in favour of mobile phones. To cater to this opportunity, we're growing rapidly, and have a range of career opportunities in partner management, business development and account management. These roles are about helping small and medium businesses grow through solutions such as Facebook Pages and advertising, specifically in acquisition, marketing, sales and partnerships. My team members will be sharing in-depth about what they do in their roles, so do read on!

Chawadee W., Account Lead, Southeast Asia

What do you do as an account lead?

I build, develop and lead a team of account managers to help small and medium businesses in Thailand and Vietnam to grow through consultation, education and support.

You’ve been at Meta for five years. How have you grown personally and professionally?

I've grown from an individual contributor who drives execution by myself, to becoming a people manager who scales impact through building a team of experts. In my journey, I've learned to take on a growth mindset. Working at Meta constantly challenges me to move out of my comfort zone as there are new things to learn and problems to solve every day. I have learned to enjoy meeting new challenges, learning from my experiences and improving myself.
As a manager, I truly believe in servant leadership, where leading is about bringing people along your journey and inspiring people to follow you. I'm privileged to be a part of a wonderful company that genuinely cares for its employees, and is committed to developing them. This includes giving hard but sincere feedback to help them learn and grow.

Mark L., Account Manager, Southeast Asia

What are some things people don’t know about your team?

We love karaoke, but only one of us can sing (Guess who?). As a team, we are also really competitive. But at the same time, we’re rooted in each other’s success.

What excites you about your work?

It’s exciting to sit down with clients from different industries and work with them on building solutions that help them build their businesses using Meta. The work goes beyond just Meta and I get to take on the role of a business consultant, understanding market trends and client intricacies and helping them make hard decisions.
Outside this core role as an account manager, I’m also able to take advantage of a lot of opportunities to build communities—helping social entrepreneurs leverage the platform to create more impact via the social entrepreneurship award, and startups by conducting workshops and office hours under startup station. I love the fact that the company gives me the ability to prioritize community-building projects that are important to me, such as bringing electricity to underserved remote communities via my work with One Million Lights Philippines.

Mark B., Account Manager, Southeast Asia

Indonesia is the biggest market in Southeast Asia. What can you share about the market and how you make impact in your role as an account manager in Indonesia?

Imagine being a part of a revolution where you get to play a role in changing the digital landscape of your country and, in parallel, build communities that bring value to people's lives. As an Indonesian, and an account manager, this is incredibly empowering.
The Indonesia market is an exciting space that demands quick thinking and an eye for opportunity. Creating impact in Indonesia relies on the ability to be dynamic and have a wide network of communities, due to the size of the country. These are the key ingredients that have helped us to navigate through complexities and build something truly epic for the future.
