How the program works

Rotational Network Engineers are hired as full-time Network Production Engineers right from the beginning. Upon joining Meta, all Rotational Network Engineers undergo a 3-week engineering bootcamp followed by a comprehensive program where they gain experience with various Network Infra technologies, tools, and frameworks.

Throughout the program, Rotational Network Engineers get exposure to the different domains and teams within Meta. Once Rotational Network Engineers complete the program modules they will graduate from the program and transition to one of the teams in Network Infra.

North America: Rotational Engineers in North America will be based in our Menlo Park office

Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA): Rotational Engineers in EMEA will be based in our Dublin or London office (depending on job posting)

How to apply

To participate in the Rotational Network Engineer Program, you must first apply to the Network Production Engineer (University Grad) role. Applications for the program typically open in late fall. Once the application has been reviewed, the team will invite selected candidates to take an online multiple-choice assessment covering networking, coding, and systems topics. If successful with passing the exercise, you'll move on to a series of interviews to assess your technical coding and networking skills.

META HIRING PROCESS

Frequently asked questions

The program is designed to accelerate your career within Meta by giving tools and knowledge, such that you can have an impact when joining a permanent team. Once Rotational Network Engineers complete the program modules, they will graduate from the program and transition to one of the teams in Network Infra as a full-time Network Production Engineer.

We aim to align the Rotational Network Engineers interests with the hiring teams in order to maximise impact and accelerate their career growth at Meta. The first team placement is determined by combining the rotational network engineer’s interests, skills and experiences with the wider Infrastructure team's needs and openings.

The Network team at Meta designs, builds and operates one of the largest networks in the world (inside and outside data centers). Due to our scale, we need software (from systems to automations) to manage a large fleet of devices, control how the traffic flows from point A to B, monitor and troubleshoot issues when they arise. Being able to code is at the center of the day to day activities for Network Production Engineers to keep evolving the network and keep it available for billions of people around the world.

The interview process will evaluate candidates coding and network fundamentals knowledge.

Networking Interview questions could be related to the following areas:

  • Networking fundamentals (such as ARP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, IPv4, IPv6)
  • TCP (fundamentals, troubleshooting, packet loss on the network)
  • BGP (or other routing protocols)

Coding Interview questions can be a real problem, or something contrived which could include:

  • File handling
  • Data structure
  • BigO notation
  • Common algorithms
