Optics & Display Research (O&DR) is seeking an innovative Research Scientist with a background in solid-state physics and experience in organic/hybrid materials and process development. We are looking for innovators and systems thinkers to discover solutions to complex problems, and to design and implement experiments that enable functioning components and modules. This is a full-time position and requires an advanced degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a dynamic, cross-functional team.
Research Scientist: Materials & Processes Innovation Responsibilities
  • Develop a physics model of novel materials and process development potential.
  • Lead efforts in material and process development to enable innovative concepts for better optics and opto-electronics.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams and scientists with specialties in Computation, Optics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering to identify and develop solutions following best practices.
  • Collaborate with extended teams to identify and develop critical industrial and research partners to develop and scale novel technologies.
  • Own strategy from proof-of-concept to manufacturing.
  • 50% or more time expected in the lab to build your vision of the future.
  • Work collaboratively in a cross-group and cross-culture environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD Degree or equivalent experience in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, Electrical Engineering, Optics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in solid-state physics with a proven track record of success in applying physics models in material and process development.
  • 8+ years lab experience in one of the following areas: organic opto-electronics, organic semiconductors, polymer physics and engineering, or crystal engineering.
  • 8+ years lab experience in material and process characterization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities applied to complex problems.
  • Proven track record of success in bridging fundamental research, prototyping, and early-stage production.
  • Proven track record of success in solving complex technical problems with breadth and depth, critical thinking and decision-making.

$173,000/year to $241,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
