We are currently seeking an experienced, innovative Research Scientist in the Polymer Film and Fiber area to develop cutting-edge polymer films and fibers for AR/VR and haptics applications. You will be expected to set bench-top experiments, demonstrate feasibility, and scale-up processes. You will be also expected to collaborate with cross-functional teams to build component level prototyping and system level assembly.
Research Scientist: Novel Polymer Processes and Materials Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate feasibility of bench-top equipment and formulations for novel polymer film and fiber processes.
  • Develop polymer film and fiber pilot-scale processes with cross-functional teams.
  • Understand film and fiber applications in the AR/VR and haptics systems, and be able to prototype the applications.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to achieve success for the products.
  • Lead vendor engagement.
  • Lead film and fiber development, reliability, and scale-up towards product.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. degree in the field of Polymer Physics, Polymer Material, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, other related engineering field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with thermoplastic polymer film and fiber laboratory work and scale-up.
  • Experience with optical film and film lamination.
  • Experience with polymer characterization and failure analysis.
  • Experience with internal and external cross-functional teams and vendor engagement.
  • 5+ years experience in Polymer Physics, Polymer Material, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related industries.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in gel casting process.
  • Experience in fiber spinning process.
  • Experience in polymer modeling process.
  • Product development experience.
