At Meta Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected–anytime, anywhere. We are building a team of world-class experts developing and shipping products at the intersection of consumer electronics, luxury goods, and high fashion. Our team will be responsible for taking the breakthrough design of the Ray-Ban Stories glasses and delivering brand specific variants to market, at scale. Based in Milan, the Smart Glasses Italy Design Center will actively participate in concept development, design ideation, and setting product architecture. From there, our team is tasked with executing and validating the range of designs that we develop with our partners in a manner that is consistent with Meta's culture of end-to-end ownership. As a Hardware Design Engineer (Electrical Engineer) on the Smart Glasses team you will design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for our expanding line of smart glasses. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through fast iterative prototyping. You will work cross-functionally with teams that will dynamically change depending on the problem and will include mechanical, industrial design, software/firmware, operations, and manufacturing teams. We want people who work well in teams, can take high level requirements and develop detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and then transition these designs into a high-volume consumer product. We’re looking for system or board level Hardware Design Engineers (Electrical Engineers) with experience in high volume consumer products. These systems will have custom ASICs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, audio, camera sensors, and high speed I/O. Familiarity with CAD tools like Cadence OrCAD, Altium, SPICE, ModelSim, or Xilinx, is required. The ideal candidate would be comfortable designing mixed high-speed digital circuit boards, be experienced troubleshooting at the board and system level, and be familiar with the consumer product development process.
Hardware Design Engineer (Consumer Electronics) Responsibilities
  • Designing schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into electro-mechanical systems.
  • Collaborating in a team environment across a range of engineering disciplines.
  • Designing, simulating, prototyping, and testing of electrical systems in experiments which combine mechanics, optics, and software elements.
  • Specifying components
  • Transforming vendor or internal reference designs into custom solutions.
  • Working with EU, USA, and Asia based teams on architecture, design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Working autonomously and taking initiative to manage priorities.
  • Incubating new technologies into high volume production.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience along with a BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with schematic and board design using Cadence OrCAD, Altium or equivalent.
  • Experience working with one of these technologies: oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, and function generators.
  • Experience working with one of these technologies: digital signal processing, real-time image processing, display engineering, camera modules, mobile SoC and PMIC, power, or Battery Management System.
  • Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional groups and vendors to execute per the project plans.
  • Experience working with international based contract manufacturers.
  • Experience working with rigid boards and flex PCB technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PHD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience with high speed signaling over DP, MIPI, HDMI, and USB SS.
  • Experience with IMUs/sensor physical sensor systems with an understanding of calibration methods.
  • Experience with vision systems.
  • Experience with audio systems.
  • Experience programming in languages like Python or C/C++.
  • Experience with circuit design in high speed circuits, Verilog/FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, firmware, and programmable logic based development.
  • Consumer Electronics experience and working within a mass production environment
