The Data Center Systems Engineer works at the confluence of Facebook's compute, storage and networking hardware and our data center electrical, mechanical and network infrastructure. This position is in the Data Center System Engineering team and will collaborate with the Facebook teams designing and operating our data centers and hardware. The Engineer will view these elements as a large-scale system and will solve system-level issues as they arise. More importantly, they will prevent them from occurring by influencing the design of the constituent elements. The ideal candidate has significant experience developing enterprise or cloud-scale hardware and will use this experience to understand how those products interact with each other and the surrounding infrastructure.
Data Center Systems Integration Engineer Responsibilities
  • Participate in critical design reviews for hardware systems use in the data center
  • Work with cross-functional team to define the system level specification that guides the hardware system design and data center design for serviceability, efficiency and reliability
  • Collaborate with data center Site Operations and Facilities Operations teams, and Hardware Design and Release-to Production teams to understand issues affecting operational scalability of Facebook data centers and POPs
  • Work with the cross functional teams to identify solution to better service the data center operations
  • Develop HW tools to aid the data center operations and SW tooling validation
  • Provide detail specifications for internal or external prototype development and release the product for customer use
  • Create system requirements for and identify the software requirements, work with internal or external for final application development
  • Work with these internal groups and external consultants to perform complex, system-level troubleshooting, as needed
  • Use the knowledge gained to highlight opportunities for significant engineering improvements and lead high impact, measurable, cross-functional initiatives
  • Travel may be necessary to support field measurement and validation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • 10 or more years of experience developing hardware products for mass production
  • Experience with hardware product development flow and product management life cycle
  • Experience with hardware system design including electronic circuit, PCBA, FPGA and system bring up
  • Knowledgeable on HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) with good understanding on hardware interaction with software in a system
  • Knowledgeable with industry standard protocols or buses such as Ethernet, PCIe, I2C, ModBus, RS232, RS485, CAN Bus
  • Collaboration and influencing experience and experience working independently with minimal guidance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Engineering or Physics degree
  • Experience with complex system test and troubleshooting, strong hands-on knowledge to triage the system level issues
  • Experience of designing or using diagnostic tools to identify failure at component and interface level
  • Experience with large-scale cloud environments in compute, storage or networking
