Unit 2 Games is an award-winning, Meta-owned games studio based in Leamington Spa, UK. We were formed in 2017 to build Crayta - our dream to make game creation accessible to anyone and everyone. We are looking for a Technical Animator to join our team and work across a range of features and deliveries. These include; working closely with our Animation team on development and support on our rigging and animation pipelines. Working with our Technical Art team and Engineering team to deliver new functionality for expressive metaverse characters through prototyping and iterative feature development.
Technical Animator - Unit 2 Games Responsibilities
  • Working collaboratively with the animation team, to support the development and optimization of the animation and rigging pipelines currently running in our projects.
  • Deliver production content to time and to specification, including robust, reusable, animator-friendly rigs and excellent skinning that gives natural deformation to meshes.
  • Build strong collaborative working relationships with all members of the animation and technical art teams, the wider team, the studio, and wider Meta organization.
  • Communicate effectively and build bridges between disciplines.
  • Using your end to end understanding of animation pipelines to proactively work with a multidisciplinary team to specify and research, then prototype and develop, flexible and performant animation systems for the future
  • Be curious about how user generated content (UGC) and avatars will appeal to wide audiences, learn new technologies and invest in improving your skills on your own to deliver solutions in this space.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Showreel and example files that demonstrate good rig creation and mesh skinning, and some animation tools and pipeline development.
  • Practical experience of delivering content though real-time animation pipelines, and of debugging content.
  • Good proficiency in relevant software packages, e.g. Maya and Unreal 4.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of what natural human movement and anatomy is, so that all technical work is informed and guided by aiming for the most appealing visual results.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some experience developing tools and interfaces in Maya utilizing scripting.
  • Some experience with facial animation.
  • Some experience of working with motion capture pipelines and equipment (e.g. Motionbuilder and Xsens).
  • Some experience with runtime IK solutions.
  • Experience setting up animation dynamics, physics assets and ragdoll.
