Reality Labs (RL) Sensors Team at Meta is helping build novel products in Augmented and Virtual Reality. Our team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge sensing technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future AR/VR products at Meta. We are looking for candidates with experience in ultrasonic sensing for 3D imaging and time-of-flight detection to assist with the development of novel hardware and software systems within the RL Sensors Team, while collaborating with experts across multiple domains.
Research Scientist, Ultrasonic Sensing Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other researchers and engineers across Facebook to develop novel hardware and software products that advance the state-of-the-art in AR/VR systems
  • Collaborate with internal and external research, design, and engineering teams to develop ultrasonic sensing solutions that advance the state-of-the-art
  • Work with the team to help design, setup, and run practical experiments related to ultrasonic sensing systems
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a background in ultrasonic sensing systems
  • 4+ years of experience in design and development of ultrasonic sensing systems for remote sensing and 3D imaging
  • Demonstrated experience with ultrasonic imaging, beam forming, and/or 3D image reconstruction techniques
  • Familiarity with signal processing techniques, signal-to-noise ratio analysis, link-budget analysis, detection and estimation theory
  • Hands-on experience in bring-up, debug, and testing of ultrasonic sensing systems using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers
  • Demonstrated interpersonal experience in cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a background in ultrasonic sensing systems
  • Experience modeling acoustic systems using software platforms such as kWave, ANSYS, or COMSOL
  • Experience in scripting languages such as MATLAB or Python
  • Experience in implementing multi-modal sensor fusion and modern Machine Learning algorithms on sensor systems
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by patents or first-authored publications
  • Familiarity with the emerging Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving skills
