Meta's Reality Labs group seeks an Associate General Counsel for its Portal business. Portal from Meta provides an immersive video calling experience to connect with friends, loved ones and work teammates, even when miles apart. The attorney in this position will work closely with the product, software and hardware engineering teams creating Portal products to provide legal advice on products and strategy. Success in this position will require applying a complex and evolving global legal framework to new and innovative tech products and services. Associate General Counsel, Reality Labs Responsibilities
  • Providing legal advice to product, software engineering and other business teams across many subject areas, including data protection/privacy laws, consumer protection laws and the general legal framework for consumer and business facing software and hardware
  • Analyze products, policies, and initiatives to develop strategy for future products and provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions
  • Build positive and influential relationships with executives, product teams, and peers across the Meta organization
  • Lead consensus building and drive coordination with other members of the legal team and teams within the business
  • Coordinate with public policy, communications, product management, product marketing, trust and safety, and other cross-functional teams on external communications, policy development, product development, and product launches
Minimum Qualifications
  • Qualified to practice law in the UK and/or Ireland
  • 8+ years plus of relevant legal experience, including at a top law firm and/or prior in-house experience with internet or technology companies working on product and privacy related issues
  • First-rate experience developing innovative and pragmatic approaches to complex legal challenges with a proven track record in providing concise and business-focused legal advice
  • Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risks and to present this advice to legal and non-legal leadership personnel
  • Proven ability to successfully manage large-scale projects and lead teams on complex matters
  • Ability to work autonomously and cross-functionally, to lead and drive work matters and develop and own relationships with clients to become their trusted advisor
  • Flexibility and eagerness to work on a broad range of legal matters and a passion for and understanding of technology
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organisational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with tech executives and advising platform and software teams on complex legal issues
  • Experience with providing legal advice on B2B solutions
  • Experience in-house at a technology company
  • Experience advising clients on risk mitigation across technology product platforms
  • Experience working on accessibility or communication features, or products for commercial use
  • Problem-solving, communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working on multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment
