We are looking for an experienced manager and thought partner to lead our fast-growing VR Devices DS team. This team’s mission is to develop world-class data science solutions to maximize growth and development of our virtual reality devices (e.g., Quest, VR accessories, emerging headsets still in concept stage, etc.). Data scientists on this team drive the product roadmap by measuring and optimizing key strategic decisions, including optimal pricing, incentive structures/promos, new hardware and feature launches, demand estimation and long-run equilibrium, and more. The team utilizes a range of quantitative methods (e.g., econometrics, causal inference, experimentation, industrial organization, machine learning, structural modeling) and partners closely with engineers, product leaders, hardware architects, finance, and business functions.
Data Science Manager, VR Devices DS, Reality Labs Responsibilities
  • As the manager of the VR Devices DS team, you will lead the development of world-class data science solutions that will shape and optimize our product roadmap, including the following:
  • Drive our optimal pricing and incentives/promos strategy given both short-term and long-term effects, e.g., growth, content development, competition, complementarity, cannibalization, user heterogeneity, unit economics, etc.
  • Measure the incremental value of various hardware, accessories, product, and content features (including some still in concept stage) and use this to inform future investments, product decisions, and our Northstar goals.
  • Quantify the key long-term drivers of device growth and identify opportunities to optimize our acquisition strategy and bend the curve.
  • Develop novel methodologies to understand and estimate Oculus device demand.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders across product, engineering, finance and business leadership to deliver recommendations, insights, and new ideas.
  • Define problems and opportunities in a highly complex and ambiguous area, often for future products that are still in development.
  • Grow, guide and inspire a strong DS team, with a high-impact and ambitious technical roadmap.
  • Autonomous responsibility for a large scope of influence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors/Masters Degree with 4+ years (or Ph.D. with 2+ years) of experience working within an analytical role, including 3+ years as a people manager.
  • Degree in Economics or a related field.
  • Experience with econometrics, statistical modeling, and causal inference.
  • Experience with advanced experimentation (or quasi-experimental) methods, such as synthetic control.
  • Experience with querying/data wrangling in SQL and coding in Python or R.
  • Communication skills and experience building cross-functional partnerships. Experience translating quantitative findings into actionable insights and influence business decisions.
  • Experience thinking creatively about ambiguous strategic problems, asking questions, and proactively finding opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Economics or a related field.
  • Experience in consumer electronics or hardware.
  • Structural modeling experience.
  • Machine learning experience.
