Facebook is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Facebook AI Research, a research organization focused on making significant progress in AI. Facebook AI Research (FAIR) conducts cutting-edge research to deepen our understanding of existing AI methods and advance the state-of-the-art. For this position, the applicant will engage with the supervisor and other researchers in Facebook AI Research (FAIR) to develop and implement research agenda, publish world-class research works and make external impacts. You will apply high standards to the research and develop an ability to identify highly impactful projects in a complex and unexplored domain. You will be able to gain valuable experience in top-tier research institutes, publish academic papers on a regular basis, and build your reputation across the world. More specifically, you will work in either of the two research directions: 1. Learning to optimize highly nonlinear objective functions in real-world scenarios via Machine learning/Reinforcement Learning techniques. 2. Understanding and improving unsupervised representation learning techniques (e.g., self-supervised learning) in real-world scenarios. For (1), applicants typically have background in basic RL methods, offline RL and search techniques, with strong insights on discrete and/or continuous optimization. For (2), applicants typically have strong research expertise on analyzing the dynamics of complicated nonlinear systems, as well as research experience on self-supervised learning techniques applied in real-world scenarios (e.g., contrastive/non-contrastive learning).
