Engineering Manager Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as electronic data processing, information systems, systems analysis, and computer programming.
  • Be both a highly technical, and an effective people manager.
  • Be a subject matter expert in at least one specific domain. (examples: product, product infrastructure, infrastructure, machine learning)
  • Lead teams that deliver on multiple projects of increasing dependencies in an ambiguous or high-impact area.
  • Work with team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy.
  • Work on issues requiring an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives.
  • Drive roadmap creation and execution.
  • Collaborate with various functions, drive engineering initiatives and have an impact at an organizational level.
  • Participate in technical design
  • Measure the impact of team and set clear expectations and goals.
  • Manage activities of two or more sections or departments, supervising costs, methods, and staffing.
  • Work effectively with cross functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Partner with leadership to influence and drive org design, contribution and prioritization.
  • Number of direct reports may vary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Analytics, or a related field and five years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation. Requires five years of experience in the following:
  • Software engineering including hands-on technical management building core software infrastructure components
  • Coding in C++, Java, Javascript, Python, or PHP
  • Recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management
  • Architecting, developing, and shipping software products or services
  • Managing teams as a direct manager, technical lead, or project manager
  • Building front end or backend software
  • Unix or Linux
  • Designing and developing distributed systems, storage systems, or cache and data distribution infrastructure
  • Scaling high performance, high throughput systems
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems in large-scale software systems
  • Coordinating large-scale, cross-functional efforts that span different teams
  • Developing and managing requirements, and making data-driven decisions
  • Leading strategic implementation and planning for risk and growth
