Meta is seeking a Data Center R&D Automation Controls Engineer experienced in the design and operations of Critical Facilities to become part of our Data Center Strategic Engineering team. We are seeking an Automations Controls Engineer who will help us make strategic technological investments in this field and evolve our integrated monitoring, automation, and controls systems with a goal of improving reliability with higher levels of automation and predictability. The Meta Data Center Strategic Engineering team endeavors to be the benchmark of innovation for the data center industry and improve reliability, safety and efficiency through innovative solutions, enabling Infrastructure teams to excel in achieving their goals.
Data Center R&D Automations Controls Engineer Responsibilities
  • Drive a culture of excellence in engineering, characterized by deep technical competence, creativity, rigorous analysis, data-driven decision making, and collaboration
  • Create integrated data center infrastructure solutions focused on system automation and controls to improve reliability, efficiency, speed to market, and cost
  • Lead and develop fundamental and applied proof of concept projects to evaluate the benefits and feasibility of the solution for broader deployment
  • Cross-functional collaboration with other Meta teams including Hardware Engineering, Network Engineering, Data Center Design, Construction, and Facilities Operations
  • Develop strong industry relationships with other data center peers, vendors, academic, and government organizations to remain current on industry trends and influence technology development
  • Recruit, coach and develop organizational talent by fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to data center sites and meetings with vendors and industry partners
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other related field
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years professional experience in the design of automation and controls of critical systems
  • Cross-discipline knowledge of complete critical facility systems
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and psychometrics
  • Understanding of electrical systems including low voltage, high voltage, power generation, UPS, and paralleling systems
  • Understanding of BACnet protocol to include IP, ETH and MS/TP
  • Understanding of Modbus protocol to include TCP, and RTU
  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of Networking Server/Client Workstations
  • Familiar with hardware, equipment, and software product development process
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Effective presentation communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering or relevant field
  • Large and complex system design experience, including dependent software, hardware, and facilities
  • Research & Development experience including concept, design, modeling, prototyping, testing, and production support
  • Schneider Electric PLC/Unity Pro experience
  • Working knowledge of the data center technology stack: computer, network, storage, and software architectures
  • Equipment manufacturing and R&D background
