Visiting Researcher, Statistics & Privacy
Our Statistics & Privacy team focuses on establishing step-change improvements to advance our long-term business growth. The team's expertise spans many domains including statistics, machine learning, cryptography and more. We develop methodologies, design and prototype solutions, and partner with our Engineering colleagues to launch these solutions such that millions of advertisers can benefit. We seek Visiting Researchers to identify new opportunities and help build scientifically rigorous systems focused on enhancing the efficiency of Meta’s market-leading advertising optimization systems. Challenges include machine learning from anonymous and aggregate signals, estimating the long-term value of an ad to a user, and developing robust estimators to noisy signal data.
Visiting Researcher, Statistics & Privacy Responsibilities
  • Identify specific, high-impact opportunities to build new and improve existing advertising and commerce solutions
  • Design and prototype new algorithms, optimization methods, and system architectures
  • Assess the validity and rigor of new approaches, establishing scalable validation frameworks for ongoing evaluation
  • Build cross-functional relationships with AI, Engineering, Product and Analytics teams to shape long-term roadmaps with a balance of scientific rigor and strategic considerations
  • Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences
  • Establish collaborations and communications externally with academia and industry
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, statistics, or other quantitative fields, or MS/MA degree with 4+ years of relevant experience in data science or research science
  • Understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their mathematical underpinning
  • Expertise with at least one of the following machine learning technology areas: (a) Representation learning, (b) Reinforcement learning or multi-armed bandits, (c) Domain adaptation or multi-task learning, and (d) Recommender systems or online advertising
  • Proficiency designing and implementing analytical and/or algorithmic solutions, tailored to particular business needs and tested on large data sets
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with communicating analysis and establishing confidence among audiences who do not share your disciplinary background or training
