Unit 2 Games is an award-winning, Meta-owned games studio based in Leamington Spa, UK. We were formed in 2017 to build Crayta - our dream to make game creation accessible to anyone and everyone. This Environment & Material Artist role will own, develop and expand Crayta’s voxel and material libraries. These form a key part of the look and feel of the game and provide boundless creativity for our players. Working alongside other Art team members, using a keen eye for detail, art style and gameplay you will take responsibility for the implementation of key content and bringing Crayta assets into the Metaverse. This role will suit a talented environment artist with a strong preference for creating Substance materials and an innate understanding of how creators like to build worlds and inspiring spaces.
Environment & Material Artist - Unit 2 Games Responsibilities
  • Create beautiful Prop & Voxel materials for our Crayta creation assets that adhere to the art style
  • Own, improve and expand Crayta’s fundamental building block set: the voxel library
  • Work with our Technical Art team to improve and develop voxel and material capabilities to elevate the look and feel of Crayta
  • Maintain Crayta’s art style and technical standards through timely feedback
  • Understand how and which voxels and materials will give maximum design impact to our players and creators
  • Liaise with the Community team to formulate and schedule packs of highly requested assets by our creators
  • Model ‘hero props’ from our rolling seasonal content packs as exemplars for outsource artists
  • Build strong collaborative working relationships with all members of the Art team, studio, and wider Meta organisation regardless of discipline or seniority
  • Understand the audience and core goals and game ethos
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience of game development
  • A strong portfolio of relevant game work
  • Experience and a strong technical understanding of Substance Designer & Unreal 4 and how to build beautiful materials
  • Proficient in the use of other job relevant software e.g. Maya, Photoshop, Asana and confidence with Perforce or similar
  • Effective communication skills across a range of mediums
  • A good understanding of game art asset production, technical constraints and schedule limitations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of the composition of materials, their properties and how to represent them in a game engine
  • Experience in working within a stylistic art direction with materials
