Reality Labs Research is looking for a Data Capture Systems Engineer to help create state-of-the-art capture systems to revolutionize photorealistic telepresence in virtual reality, thus enabling the ability to interact with anyone, anytime, anywhere. We have made some important advances, but it will take a team with a wide spectrum of skills to fully realize this goal. The ideal candidate is a person with demonstrated experience in rapid development of fully functioning hardware prototypes which integrate multiple electrical, mechanical, and software components.
Data Capture Systems Engineer Responsibilities
  • Manage our research facility overall data acquisition capabilities: design, implementation and maintenance of multi-sensor systems, including sensor selection, sensor mounts, system calibration, lighting design, power distribution, synchronization and triggering system.
  • Drive system level requirements for capture systems.
  • Translate prototypes into production level systems, checking in with researchers to ensure that the requirements for the capture system are clearly laid out.
  • Collaborate with researchers and other engineers across multiple disciplines to discuss, develop and optimize designs for prototypes.
  • Support research and exploration of new sensors and combinations to deliver the next generation of capture systems.
  • Oversee hardware and system integration, data transfer, pipeline tools development to improve processing workflows.
  • Drive R&D and stay on top of new technology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with computer network architecture on Linux and Windows.
  • Organizational and planning skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proven and varied image/data capture background with vertical experiences within closed and/or location set/stage.
  • Experience with hardware engineering, with mechanical and electronics systems skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with high-end VFX and/or video game motion capture production pipeline and systems (e.g. Vicon, OptiTrack), both hardware and software components.
  • Experience managing hardware or rapid prototyping projects.
  • Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, optical engineers, and software engineers.
  • Experience with virtual or augmented reality systems.
  • Experience with protocol design, specification, and implementation.
