Facebook's Content Strategy team is looking for a strategic, results-oriented Taxonomy Manager and Information Architecture lead to help build and scale our taxonomy practice; manage a team of taxonomists; drive a vision for connecting terminology, taxonomy and localization across our products; and create value for the people who use our products. The work will include helping drive a community of practice across Facebook taxonomists, establishing standards, enforcing quality and evangelizing the value of taxonomy and its potential to transform our user experience and connect experiences across our products. You'll establish best practices in working with human labelers and machine learning to continually improve our product experiences. You'll build community among taxonomists working across (and reporting in to) different product teams, develop requirements for tools, and help reduce user effort and improve the effectiveness of our content. You'll bring thought leadership to help drive adoption of taxonomy and information architecture, manage ambiguity to help shape the role, recruit and help build the team, define and execute against roadmaps and establish partnerships with key teams to maintain quality experiences and relevant results across a 2 billion person, global audience.
Manager, Taxonomy Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of taxonomists
  • Research and incorporate industry best practices and innovation into our information architecture (IA) and taxonomy practice
  • Develop, maintain and bridge taxonomies, metadata models and classification schemas across products and teams
  • Partner with product teams, terminologists, localization and taxonomists across Facebook to assess the current content experience and determine immediate and long-term opportunities
  • Define and evangelize best practices to taxonomists and product partners
  • Scope the business requirements to select or build highly usable, software-based solutions to meet our needs
  • Evangelize the need to adopt core information management tools and experiment with new approaches and solutions
  • Develop a roadmap that includes immediate, easy-win improvements but also leads to a transformative change in how we categorize, serve and deliver experiences to our users
  • Create personas, wireframes, process maps, data models and other artifacts to describe the intended user experience and educate partners on the value and potential impact of connecting our taxonomies
  • Plan and design taxonomy management and maintenance programs
  • Educate stakeholders on an ongoing basis to champion the taxonomy process, workflows and implementation frameworks
  • Build alignment across technology and business processes governance
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of work experience leveraging technology across many processes to enable automation
  • 3+ years experience managing taxonomists
  • Experience building taxonomies, terminology databases, and thesauri
  • Experience with information modeling, data diagramming, and content optimization
  • Demonstrated experience with HTML, XML, and SQL
  • Experience in product managing scalable systems
  • Experience presenting IA concepts and deliverables in a compelling and convincing manner
  • Experience translating business needs into long-term IA solutions
