Meta is seeking a highly motivated and experienced counsel to provide trade compliance guidance and support to Meta’s network infrastructure initiatives that are critical to our network, our services, and the future of the internet. This position will play a key role in providing sanctions, export, import, and antiboycott advice in support of our network infrastructure strategy and negotiations and will partner closely with multiple cross-functional stakeholders to seamlessly drive success. This full-time position is a great opportunity to join a growing legal team and to work on novel issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment. You will work closely with colleagues from various regions and disciplines, including Legal, Tax, and Finance, to ensure our engagements are reflective of the company’s policies and risk tolerance. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical understanding of contracts, contract negotiations, and trade controls; have excellent communication and negotiation skills; and be able to find creative solutions to complex issues. To succeed in this role, you will need to be able to multitask efficiently and effectively to manage competing priorities. The role can be located in our Singapore or Sydney office.
Associate General Counsel, Global Trade Compliance - Connectivity Responsibilities
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate trade controls provisions for a broad range of agreements in support of the expansion of Meta’s network infrastructure, including joint build agreements and supply contracts for the construction of fiber-optic cable systems, dark fiber leases and IRUs, and colocation agreements.
  • Counsel and advise on activities relating to U.S. and international sanctions regimes.
  • Identify issues and collaborate with other internal teams (e.g., Finance, Tax, Compliance) and external counsel to structure appropriate commercial frameworks and support global network initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key clients and cross-functional partners.
  • Provide strategic trade compliance guidance to the business with respect to our approach to issues and partnerships.
  • Provide solid and practical business and legal advice.
  • Drive resolution of trade compliance issues in proposed projects and that arise in negotiations.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Law degree and practicing certificate (or equivalent) in a common law jurisdiction.
  • 8+ years of attorney experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating contracts, preferably globally, at a law firm or in-house with a multinational corporation.
  • Record of legal and business judgment and strategic thinking.
  • Diligent, well-organized, and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at both law firms and in-house.
  • Experience handling U.S. and non-U.S. sanctions issues.
  • Experience handling export and import compliance issues.
  • Experience working with or in support of diverse communities.
