Enterprise Engineering is looking for Database Engineers. We build and run the enterprise applications and database systems that are critical to support Facebook's enterprise systems. We use a combination of open source and off-the-shelf database and applications systems plus many of the tools developed to run Facebook. You will be responsible for enabling robust and scalable enterprise application growth by solving complex configuration, performance and infrastructure problems.
Database Engineer Responsibilities
  • Build, scale, and secure Facebook’s enterprise infrastructure, focusing specifically on databases and applications.
  • Combine open-source and commercial technologies to build services that will have an impact on the business.
  • Work in a heterogeneous environment containing diverse databases and applications, and make them work well together.
  • Apply modern engineering methodologies such as infrastructure as code, container orchestration, and code migration for growing database infrastructure.
  • Improve and optimize database administration and management with coding and automation with a focus on the performance, high availability and reliability.
  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of enterprise applications and databases.
  • Be the final escalation point for issues related to applications and database systems.
  • Produce systems that are scalable, automated, and well-documented, and train others to take on operations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. or M.S. in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years database administration experience working with Oracle or MySQL or PostgreSQL with high availability and disaster recovery.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting or deploying scale web-based distributed applications on containers such as Apache/Tomcat, JBoss, Web Logic, and Web Sphere in a Unix environment.
  • 4+ years system administration experience with Linux platforms.
  • 2+ years experience with Python and Shell and any other languages used in system tooling (e.g. Ruby, Perl).
  • 2+ years experience working with monitoring and configuration management tools such as Puppet or Chef.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Oracle/MySQL/PostGres/Mongo databases. Experience working with Oracle/MySQL/PostGres/Mongo databases.
  • Experience working with enterprise/open-source Applications.
  • Experience working with virtualized environments (VMware/OpenStack).
  • Experience working with container environments.
  • Experience with common monitoring and configuration management tools such as Nagios, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, etc.
  • Experience with automation tooling and end-to-end understanding of the database and applications ecosystem.
  • Experience in database/applications performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with or in support of diverse communities.
