The In App Browser team at Meta builds some of the most popular Web browsers, the Web browser inside of Meta's mobile applications. Increasingly these are powered by a custom Chromium-based browser engine. Browser engineers working on the In App Browser team are responsible for making dramatic improvements to rendering Web pages and Web content inside the In App Browser. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about the Web, Web browsers and empowering Web developers. As a Software Engineer working on Browser Engineering at Meta you will help bring new capabilities to Web developers by implementing web standard APIs and features to mobile browsers. You will drive architectural changes and projects that dramatically improve the stability and performance of Meta's mobile browsers and you'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with other browser vendors and standards bodies to help push the state of the Web forward. A successful candidate is comfortable in the Chromium or another major browser code base, with C++ and/or Rust, can take the point of view of a web developer and is comfortable with native mobile development.
Software Engineer - Browser Responsibilities
  • Work closely with our product and design teams to build new and innovative application experiences for the In App Browser.
  • Contribute to integrating Chromium into Meta's native mobile applications.
  • Make improvements to Chromium's performance and stability in order to improve the stability of the In App Browser overall.
  • Implement and propose new APIs and features that help improve the capabilities and quality of the In App Browser.
  • Build reusable Chromium software components for interfacing with our back-end platforms.
  • Lead long term design and security planning for Chromium within Meta mobile applications to ensure the continued stability and scalability of our platforms.
  • Profile performance problems and drive optimizations that span the Chromium and mobile application software stacks.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years’ experience defining and driving technical work streams and providing technical leadership for software engineering teams
  • 2+ years of experience with Web browser development
  • Experience with building and deploying new features at scale in a browser engine or browser
  • Experience with coding in C++
  • Experience developing, debugging, and shipping software products on large code bases that span platforms and tools
  • Experience with debugging performance and reliability issues on Browser Engines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with coding in Rust
  • Experience with building and deploying new features at scale in a Chromium based browser
  • Experience with debugging performance and reliability issues on Chromium
  • Experience with Chromium/Blink development
  • 1+ years of experience developing software for Mobile platforms (Android/iOS)
  • Experience with Android performance tools and security models

$177,008/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
