How We Work
Angela P.’s love language is carving out space in the world for herself and her community.
“Like many people who grew up in working class families or who took nontraditional paths, I never thought I was ‘good enough’ to work in tech,” she remembers. “We often talk ourselves out of opportunities because we think we don’t have the product knowledge or qualifications, but when I joined Meta — after a few tries! — I knew I had a dream job and a massive opportunity.”
Angela describes “falling into” a technical path after studying journalism and holding roles in content marketing and UX design. “When I started as a content designer for Facebook, I worried that everyone could tell I was inexperienced,” she shares. Quickly, though, she realized her fresh perspective was a unique way she could add value to her team. “I was part of the emerging markets team helping people who use Facebook in India understand the app better. Because I was also learning, I was able to bring a lot of empathy to that experience.”
As Angela gained confidence in her role, she navigated another challenge: feeling like she belonged among her peers. “When you come from a different socioeconomic background, it’s easy to feel like a fish out of water at first. That experience isn’t talked about too often,” she shares. After connecting with teammates who felt the same, Angela started a Workplace group focused on socioeconomic diversity — just six months after joining Meta. “It’s empowering to bring together people who don’t come from economically privileged backgrounds and discuss our experiences,” she says. “Helping people find their voice is so rewarding, and this community is my greatest pride and joy at Meta.”
Angela’s dedication to diversity and authenticity shines in everything she does. Her team designs experiences that span the Facebook app, from Groups and Reels to the feed. Her team is dedicated to making sure there are unified but innovative designs across the app, so users can understand what happens if they tap a certain button or engage with a new feature.“I love that when you open the Facebook app, I can point to five different things our team has worked on over time,” she smiles.
Angela’s impact at Meta goes far beyond her core role. She is part of the inclusive product council, which focuses on equity and making experiences good for everyone.
“It’s really cool,” she explains. “Before a feature launches, members of the council evaluate how it will affect different underrepresented communities. We ask, ‘what can we do to make this more inclusive or so it positively impacts everyone equitably?’” Angela says.
“There was also a tool on the Jobs platform on Facebook that was more tailored to a specific group of people, and I was able to give feedback thanks to my family background. That's where the inclusive product council really shines.”
Angela’s pride in who she is and where she comes from has only grown since joining Meta, and now she gets to share it with her team. “I always wanted to be a people manager, but I started as an individual contributor to get a strong foundation of how things work. That way, I could help people avoid making the same mistakes or know they’re not alone when they do,” she says.
Today, she’s committed to creating a safe space for everyone to innovate and thrive. “I encourage my team to be creative by leading with trust in each team member. You need to feel comfortable being yourself to do your best work. That will always be important to me.”
