The Meta Reality Labs Research team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. And just as personal computers have done over the past 45 years, AR and VR will ultimately change everything about how we work, play, and connect. We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, including optics and displays, computer vision, audio, graphics, brain-computer interface, haptic interaction, eye/hand/face/body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. Some of those will advance much faster than others, but they all need to happen to enable AR and VR that are so compelling that they become an integral part of our lives. In this position, you will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists and experience designers to advance the technical readiness of novel audio technologies. You will focus on integrating and performance evaluation of the latest audio algorithms for AR/VR prototypes with the goal to create new experiences beyond what traditional consumer audio devices are capable of and prove their experiential value and product viability. A successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in the design, implementation and end to end verification of audio algorithms on embedded systems. This role involves prototyping complex systems using tools such as Simulink and AudioWeaver and hands-on experience with electroacoustic measurement techniques. You will practice good judgment and understanding of system-level impact of design choices to deliver a highest performing implementation of design concepts.
Audio System Integration Engineer Responsibilities
  • Develop and document electroacoustic and hearing performance requirements for algorithms and hardware systems
  • Translate high level product experience requirements into functional specifications
  • Integrate and evaluate advanced audio algorithms for embedded real time systems in laboratory and real life environments
  • Develop hardware and software test systems and specifications for acoustic verification and perceptual validation
  • Work in close collaboration with applied research, DSP and hardware engineers to provide performance requirements and feedback for fast development iterations
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of technical experience in digital system design
  • Intimate knowledge of audio algorithm optimization and fine tuning
  • Experience with audio algorithms such as feedback cancellation, adaptive beamforming, noise cancellation and sounds scene detection
  • Experience with acoustic simulations as well as measurement software and equipment
  • Knowledge of electroacoustic transducers and systems
  • Proficiency in MathWorks tools (MATLAB & Simulink)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Background in advanced audio signal processing (e.g. microphone array processing, ambisonic render, HRTF) and measurement techniques
  • Hands-on experience in verification and system optimization of body-worn audio devices
  • Experience in building complex test systems involving Simulink, MATLAB, Python
  • Deep understanding of psychoacoustic models and concepts
