Data Protection Manager, ODPO, Advisory
Broad role which involves advising the business on risks and obligations under privacy and security regulations, as well as engagement with European privacy and data protection regulators. Opportunity to represent the DPO Office to data subjects and data protection authorities and reporting to the executive of the Meta family of companies. This requires the ability (and opportunity!) to work independently, assessing the impact of project initiatives on data subjects privacy and data protection and assessing, evaluating and advising on the impact of laws and regulations on Meta products and services.
Data Protection Manager, ODPO, Advisory Responsibilities
  • Analyse, evaluate and advise on the privacy impacts of existing and upstream legislative, regulatory, legal developments and industry proposals on Meta's services and companies, taking into account the impact of Meta services and products on data subjects' rights relating to current and evolving privacy and data protection requirements
  • Review assurance documentation, including pre-screens, LIAs and DPIAs, and draft written advice on Meta’s compliance with privacy, security regulations, information technology policies, standards and processes
  • Partner and align with cross functional teams, using privacy subject matter expertise to support and embed data ethics and privacy risk management throughout all functional business programs
  • Collaborate as business partner with key stakeholders, to drive a culture of compliance and ethics throughout Meta, so that privacy principles are considered at the outset and then re-assessed for subsequent changes in processing of personal data
  • Support Meta in delivering consistency on its handling of personal data, taking as a guide the Meta processes and tools used, developing and maintaining relationships with leadership and identifying opportunities to leverage existing knowledge and resources
  • Provide practical and actionable advice to help functional teams develop and implement their frameworks and procedures to achieve compliance with Meta’s code policies on privacy and information security. This may include helping teams to set the scope for undertaking research focused on privacy and data protection topics. You will draft guidance, training and awareness materials
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years p.q.e in either top tier practice or in-house, with direct experience of advising senior stakeholders on complex privacy challenges in a constantly shifting environment
  • Experience of and an understanding of wider regulatory pressures would be beneficial, with IAPP certification as a data protection professional (CIPP/E, CIPP/M, CIPP/T) preferable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of demonstrated strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyse, assess and advise on risk and impact from a European privacy and data protection perspective
  • 5+ years experience determining possible options for privacy handling of personal data, often in the absence of previous regulatory interpretation or operational examples, being comfortable with ambiguity
  • 5+ years experience advising on multiple complex projects in parallel, including prioritizing and working alongside cross-functional teams where you have taken into account multiple, occasionally differing, commercial requirements
  • Excellent written, oral communication and advocacy skills, with demonstrable experience of prioritising effectively, managing diverse and multiple stakeholders
  • Commercially aware specialist, capable of applying regulatory principles and frameworks to complex commercial and operational arrangements
  • 5+ years experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to get the job done, sustaining long term professional relationships with such teams
  • Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risks in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments
  • Attention to detail and strong drafting ability that can be used in a commercial setting with business stakeholders
  • Unconscious competence in handling change, as change at Meta is constant. Roles and teams are not always static or perfectly defined so the role requires a high degree of skill in being able to explain nuances and gain cross functional support.
