Meta Reality Labs is dedicated to the research and development required to bring virtual and augmented reality to billions of people around the world. We are looking for an outstanding researcher working at the intersection of Machine Learning and NLP as well as an outstanding software engineer who can prototype invented algorithms. As a Research Engineer at Meta Reality Lab, you will pursue research, and work with other researchers and engineers to solve challenges at the forefront of Conversational AI and NLP.
Research Engineer, AR Language and AI (PhD) Responsibilities
  • Design methods, tools, and infrastructure to push forward the state of the art in Conversational AI and NLP.
  • Develop algorithms based on state-of-the-art Machine Learning and NLP techniques.
  • Work with cross functional partners and apply research that advances Meta Products.
  • Work on research projects, and problems of moderate to high complexity and scope.
  • Contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results.
  • Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience in developing and debugging in Python, C/C++, or C#.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Research experience in machine learning, deep learning, and/or natural language processing.
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICLR, or similar.
  • Experience bringing machine learning-based products from research to production.
  • Experience in Generative AI Research, Conversational AI and Speech.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Industry experience of 2+ years in Machine Learning, Conversational AI and NLP.
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
