Director, Data Center Construction- APAC Meta is seeking an experienced Director to join our DataCenter Engineering & Construction Team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. Building, operating and retrofitting data centers the "right" way is synonymous with ensuring high uptime, capacity availability and capital conservation. The Datacenter Engineering and Construction (DEC) team thinks from chip to chiller (or electrical substation), determining configurations and ensuring maximum efficiency of our compute infrastructure, and the DEC Delivery team is committed to continual optimization of the delivery process at each level. The DEC Delivery organization and its sub teams operate in a matrix team structure and the Director will have the Data Center Delivery responsibility within our APAC Region for new build and retrofit construction project success (to include all data cabling infrastructure), GC and trade partner relationships and team member development. Further, the Director will work with cross functional partners to foster governmental agency and owner furnished equipment vendor collaboration and relationships, as well as relationship management with key cross functional operational partners (Facilities Operations, Edge Network Services and Facilities Engineering to name a few) across the region in a culture of collaboration, safety and quality unparalleled in the datacenter construction industry. The Director is responsible for $1M- $4B project sizes managing a team of 6 - 8 direct reports (flexible based on demand) and leading a team of matrixed Safety, QAQC and Project Controls (Cost + Schedule) professionals at site toward predictable outcomes.
Director, Data Center Construction- APAC Responsibilities
  • • Report to Meta Global Delivery Director, ensure proactive risk mitigation and accountability for all new build, retrofit and cable infrastructure projects at our Singapore datacenter campus as defined by predictability in: Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost.
  • • Ownership and accountability for Meta, Infra Data Centers and DEC values and ONETEAM culture of aligned partnership, teamwork and growth at a campus.
  • • Represent DEC in the Circle of Leadership for the Singapore campus and partner effectively with Infra Data Centers cross functional teams (Facility Operations, Site Operations, Security).
  • • Build trusted business relationships with all cross-functional teams to ensure positive and collaborative working relationships.
  • • Role model/foster and encourage a high-performing, safety-focused culture across all teams, internal/external, involved in the APAC region.
  • • Build robust communication channels and cultivate relationships to influence the strategy of partner organizations in the APAC Region.
  • • In collaboration with cross functional partners foster relationships with governmental agencies and Owner Furnished Equipment Vendors within the APAC Region.
  • • Manage, grow and develop onsite team of direct report construction and connectivity delivery managers (both Full Time Employees and Contingent Workers) and matrixed reports specializing in Safety, Quality, Project Controls (Cost & Schedule).
  • • Support project contract negotiations (initial and change orders) for General Contractor, cabling partner, trade partner and consultant scopes.
  • • Assist with providing capital project budgets and provide ROM construction cost estimates along with managing Capex and Opex budgets.
  • • Lead campus delivery team efforts to guide and manage:
  • o cross functional team collaboration for Owner Furnished Equipment procurement and delivery process.
  • o biweekly risk identification review process and provide report (financial, schedule, Q/C).
  • o Knowledge capture and transfer at the program and campus level.
  • o Major vendor (General Contractor, Cabling Partner, Trade Partner, Consultants) relationships at the campus level to include GC personnel development and succession and feedback signal for continuous improvement.
  • o Retrofit work in a live data center environment.
  • o Warranty work program for existing data center buildings.
  • • 10% travel to headquarters (Fremont, CA) and other datacenter campuses.
  • • Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar degree.
  • • 20+ years experience in construction and project planning.
  • • Experience in building and cultivating high performance teams.
  • • Experience with ground-up construction and greenfield site development requirements.
  • • Experience in construction management, capital budget management, and knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • • Experience working with in region governmental authorities, construction build codes and health & safety requirements.
  • • Knowledge of in region industry standards, building codes and safety standards including fire protection regulations.
  • • Negotiation experience and experience providing solutions to complex problems under pressure.
  • • Experience with MS Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • • Overall understanding of building systems including mechanical, electrical, building management system, and fire protection in a datacenter environment.
  • • Knowledge of CPM scheduling methodologies and familiarity with Primavera. P6
  • • Datacenter development and construction experience.
  • • Familiarity with retrofit projects in live data center or other mission critical buildings, including development of Methods of Procedure (MOPs).
  • • Procore software experience.
  • • Success in matrixed organization structures.
