This position presents a unique opportunity to join a team core to the VR experience as we create the foundation for VR to be the next general computing platform. The VR Shell Graphics team mission is to deliver the core infrastructure to support building a rich, immersive, and spatial home experience. This team is involved in all aspects of development of this space - from partnering with the Art team on tooling and asset/content pipelines to the final stages of refining the environment that users experience. This is an exciting and constantly evolving area as new experiences and capabilities are built regularly for this critical area of the Metaverse. We are looking for an engineering manager that brings experience with 3D Graphics engines (Unreal, Unity, others), physics / simulation / animation systems, creation tools such as Maya/Blender, and a passion for building high performance systems. A successful candidate in this role is self-driven, has strong communication skills, thrives in a cutting-edge environment, and experience driving projects successfully across multiple teams working on different areas of a product stack.
Software Engineering Manager - Graphics, VR Shell Responsibilities
  • Manage engineers by mentoring, empowering their growth, and helping them deliver impact.
  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement.
  • Communicate cross-functionally across various teams, organizations and internal and external stakeholders to drive engineering efforts.
  • Use technical expertise and cross-functional relationships to identify strategic, long-term, and ambitious engineering goals, and intermediate milestones.
  • Use strategic influence and cross-functional relationships to drive progress on goals.
  • Recruit engineers, identifying talent gaps and the people required to fill them.
  • Create career development plans, manage performance and performance reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or similar field
  • 4+ years experience managing engineers
  • 6+ years experience in systems graphics & rendering technologies
  • 10+ years of work experience developing and launching software products
  • Experience leading development teams shipping software products through multiple releases
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern 3D Graphics engines and technologies
  • Understanding of animation systems and basic physics engines.

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
