Meta is seeking a Visiting Scientist to join the Societal Research team within Meta’s Computational Social Science group. Meta is committed to understanding and improving our impact on important societal topics, such as fostering healthy connection and community, social cohesion, civic discourse, elections and democracy, institutional trust, economic opportunity, and inequality. We are the computational social scientists dedicated to tackling these research problems at scale using quantitative and computational methods. This position is full-time and fixed term. Term length will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We are inviting applications from post-doctoral researchers who have recently obtained a PhD in a relevant field.
Visiting Scientist, Societal Research, PhD Responsibilities
  • Conduct research that uses cutting-edge computational and quantitative methods to advance the scientific understanding of questions related to Meta's impact on society
  • Work with large amounts of data in service of concrete conclusions and actionable insights
  • Communicate complex technical topics and nuanced insights to diverse audiences
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, UX researchers, and product managers to accomplish complex tasks
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Fluency with statistical methods and computational approaches (e.g. machine learning, social network analysis), and experience solving analytical problems using such techniques
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
  • A track record of and impulsive for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
  • A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision
  • Experience communicating complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Fluency with a data analysis language such as R or Python
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
  • Fluency with statistical inference techniques
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
