Unit 2 Games is an award-winning, Meta-owned games studio based in Leamington Spa, UK. We were formed in 2017 to build Crayta - our dream to make game creation accessible to anyone and everyone. We are looking for a Technical Artist to join our team and work across a range of features and deliveries. These include; ongoing pipeline development and optimization of our art pipelines. Developing new features for Crayta and its UGC community of game developers. Developing new functionality for expressive metaverse characters through prototyping and iterative feature development.
Technical Artist - Unit 2 Games Responsibilities
  • Supporting the Senior technical artists in the strategic development of Art Pipelines and tooling, and making production as efficient as possible.
  • Optimisation of content for memory and performance, whilst maintaining high visual fidelity.
  • Working collaboratively as the bridge between the art & programmer disciplines to overcome technical challenges.
  • Working with the Technical Art team to prototype and iterate on new experimental features across the games art and art pipeline including shader development.
  • Delivering content effectively to game.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Competent in analyzing pipelines and automating processes for efficiency using scripting languages.
  • Good understanding of Unreal Engine 4 or similar commercial games engines.
  • Good understanding of game asset production and the process of taking an asset from conception to bug fixing and delivery in-game.
  • Ability to author shaders and author FX (in Niagara or similar tools)
  • Some experience developing tools and/or gameplay elements using engine specific tools such as Unreal Blueprint or Unity C# scripts
  • Solid understanding of core art fundamentals, colour theory, form and composition, lighting, plus an appreciation of game level design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good knowledge of Maya based tools and pipeline development.
  • Some experience with C# and/or C++ and HLSL programming languages.
  • Some experience with Character Asset pipelines and tooling.
  • Experience with editing Substance Designer materials.
  • Experience of working on mobile platforms and VR platforms.
